Birth Control Question (hopefully not TMI)

Has anyone had any side effects going off BC? The ones that stop AF or if you get AF 4 times a year. I have just gone off Depo Pravera after being on it for 6 years. My dr. wanted me off last year because it causes bone loss but I talked him into 1 more year since I was getting married. So its been 2 weeks since I should have gotten the shot and I am noticing bloating, cramping, weight gain of 4 pds ,PMS symtoms and was wondering if this is normal. I havent gotten AF yets but they did say that it will take a while for it to come back. Anyone have any symptoms when they got off thir BC.

Re: Birth Control Question (hopefully not TMI)

When I came off of the Depo shot I was a bit crampy and PMS'y for a couple of weeks...and the first time AF made her appearance, it was a BAD one. Like...I thought I was having a miscarriage or something....there was definitely a bit of er...tissue that came out. I know that's a lot of info...but I don't want you (or anyone else who might be wondering about coming off of Depo) to freak out. I called my dr when that happened and they said it was normal...basically from not menstruating for so long (I was on it for years), there was more tissue to shed.

On the bright side, since you've been warned about how it might be more icky than you're used to, you can prepare by DVR'ing a lot of trash TV and buying a shytload of chocolate now.

Re: Birth Control Question (hopefully not TMI)

I was using Nuvaring for about 2.5 years.

It was my second time on it.

I (under my doctors OK) manipulated my cycles with it so I just didn't get a period.

Coming off it has been AWFUL.

I stopped taking it in July

My skin has gotten terrible and I'm pretty sure it has slightly contributed to the like 15 lbs I've gained since then

However -- I was on depo from age 16-20 and when I went off that I was totally fine.

So... I dont know.

I think every med affects people differently.
