Finally our sunny honeymoon! Nd Info on Antigua

Although our honeymoon last year to Sonoma Valley was very romantic, it wasn't the warm sunny beach get away we really hoped for.

We are now planning our ideal honeymoon (a year later!). Our travel agent has tuned us into a place called Galley Bay in Antigua. I'm looking for any and all feedback about the resort and the Island. Thanks! :o)

Finally our sunny honeymoon! Nd Info on Antigu

We went to Antigua on our Honeymoon. We stayed at Sandels...DO NOT stay at Sandals it is highly overrated. (If you are staying at an all inclusive resort I would definetly try and find out as much as you can about what people think of the food) We did see other resorts that looked beautiful on a day trip and boat ride we took.

If you are looking for a real green lush island, Antigua is not unless you go to the rainforest. The advantage is that it is not very humid there, which is pleasant.

We left the resort once to take a half day taxi trip around half the island with the driver being an excellent tour guide...he was the oldest taxi driver on the island with the license TAXI 1 and I think he knew everyone on the island. He took us to all the right spots to get great pictures. Nelsons Dockyard, Interpurtation center (learn about the history of the island),rainforest, showed us Eric Claptons house,etc...

Karen,

About Sandals...I posted about our trip when we got back so if you search on Sandals you should find it. Basically the food was not that good and you can't eat whenever you want. For breakfast lucnch there is only one place open and it is the same place and it is a buffet. At the 'grill' you can get burgers, grilled cheese, chix wrap...but almost always they were out of something. We got the concerige service..when we would use it there was never anyone around to help us. We felt we could have done so much better for the money we spent. Also the beach at Sandals is public so you constantly have people coming up to you asking you to buy things or braid your hair.

This was our first trip to an island so I can't comment on any place else. A lot of people really like Aruba. St Lucia is suppose to be a very green island..and a lot more humid than Antigua.

We also went to Sandals in Antigua. It was nice, but I guess Paula is right, it may be overrated. The resort itself is nice, the Rondovals are a rip off, we did not stay there but some of the people we met did and they are not worth the money, and it's noisy around them. The restaurant food was good, and we like the buffet breakfast and lunch thing, the food is different everyday. We loved the fact that everything is included and we could go scuba diving. I would say the only thing we really didn't like was we got bored. But we are the type to be on the go all the time. Then again it was really relaxing. The town is really crappy and there's not much to buy.

But I think you have to decide what you want out of the trip, relaxation or on the go type stuff.

Actually, it is my Christmas gift. Some gift, right??? I've been a little stressed and exhausted. I really need a vacation to recharge my batteries.

Thanks for the info! :)

Thanks!

Karen,

Have never been to Antigua, but have been to both St. Lucia and Aruba. IMO I loved Aruba..not too big of an island..nice beaches and plenty to do if you so choose. St Lucia on the other hand did not thrill me. The beaches were nastee and had cows and wild horses running on them, but then again this was about 10 years ago. Also it was not that clean, the roads were very narrow and at any given time you could see garbage and pigs on the street. YUCK

Thanks!

You're really very kind to have posted all that info. The brochures won't be necessary but I do appreciate the gesture!

Glad to hear re: St. Lucia. It is one of the other island's we were looking at. I HATE humidity and wouldn't be very happy if I went there. So you've been super helpful on many many levels!
