financial advisor

We went to a professional financial advisor last night for a first consultation. They offer services to help us manage our money...they don't touch our money, only help us analyze and offer options as to what to do with it. They would show us how to save for a house, children, children's college, retirement, etc. It seems like an important service to use (but it does have a price).

Need a tax planner!

We're actually in search of a tax planner. As DINKs who rent we're taking a huge hit with all our taxes! If you have any referrals, please pass them along!

advisor

Yes- I have a financial planner that I have used ...for about 3 years. He is very very thorough. I am a conservative investor...mostly in mutual funds. With the market as rocky as it has been in 2000....my portfolio was STILL up...15%.

If you need a name and number...just let me know.
I have recommended him to a few people, including my boss, and they are all pleased with his performance.

Need a tax planner!

Oh okay. When a friend of mine was pregnant she was being told by everyone 'Make sure the baby comes before Jan!' So that they could get the deduction and when they did their taxes in April it was no big deal. It was such a puny amount she was like this is what everyone was ranting and raving about?!? Certainly the expenses for a baby itself costs more than the stupid deduction! I don't get it.

What are DINKs? I assume it has somethingto do with no kids (yet). Why do newlyweds take such a hit the first year on taxes?

I saw your email was for Initiative Media. What a small world, I work with them in California. Dennis Holt is the owner of my company, Patriot Communications. When I started, we were Western.

It's a small world:)

my guy..

Yes, he is a financial planner. Sets up portfolios for you..for whatever your goals are.
All you really need to do before the appointment is get all you documents together: bank accts, cking accounts, bills, etc. He will tailor the portfolio to you needs and your comfort level.

Has done very well by me. AS I said, with the rockiness of this year's market, my portfolio was still UP...

will do!

sorry- have been very busy at work!. will email it now!

Paul took the lead and told everyone to 'back off'...Amazing isn't it? Not only is the question rude, but its insensitive for those who may be fertitily 'challenged'. I may not be able to have kids....so asking only makes it worse. I felt horrible for a long time.

DINKs and taxes

Assuming a married couple has no other deductions (ie: house, child), they are only entitled to the standard deduction for a married couple. Which logic would assume is 2x the standard deduction for a single person. BUT ITS NOT! Its actually less, so you end up paying more taxes as a married couple than when you both filed as single unmarried persons! Doesn't make much sense and isn't very fair.

So when you hear them on the news reporting about the 'Marriage Relief Tax Act', they're talking about raising up the standard deduction.

DINKs and taxes

Wow... just slap the word DINK on my forehead. I am afraid to know how much in taxes we are going to end up paying this year. I also heard that if your incomes are basically in the same bracket they take out more too. I just told my husband that I want to get the ttaxes taken care of as soon as possible. I am sure that his Holiday Bonus will all be going to it. We still are paying student loans so hopefully that will help out.

That stuff should definetely be edited out. You have the right to view it and request changes too. I would if I were you.
