HELP! Which would you book? EDIT in original post!

Ok I decided I AM going to surprise DH with a Disney trip in August for his 30th birthday. Now comes the decision portion of the decision-making process. Since I can't bounce the options off him, I need major help!

Costs listed are total (not per person) for 5 days/4 nights hotel + airfare

Option 1:
$767 total cost
4 star hotel, great reviews
15 min shuttle ride from the park and the shuttle is $6 per person per ride
on the same grounds as outlet mall and some restaurants (like Outback, Benihana)

Option 2:
$725 total cost
3.5 star hotel, mixed reviews
within the park grounds (not a disney resort but in the downtown disney area) with free shuttle

Option 3:
other?

I'd really love to stay below $775 for hotel+flight. Help!

EDIT:
OK so clearly people think Option 2 is best, I'm just nervous about the hotel quality. Anyone know anything about the following hotels? (I know some are chains, I specifically mean the Downtown Disney locations), reviews online are mixed.

Embassy Suites
Royal Plaza
Buena Vista Resort (Best Western)

Re: HELP! Which would you book?

EEK! Tough. I love Downtown Disney and I knew we spent a lot of money on travelling so if you could avoid thaaaaaaaat. I'd go option 2.

I was thinking the SAME thing and August isn't exactly peak, but it's not exactly off-peak either.

A LOT of searching online. Keep in mind these are NOT Disney resorts, they are Orlando/Disney-area resorts!

Expedia and Hotwire are great for putting packages together!

Re: HELP! Which would you book?

Staying at downtown disney is just as good as staying in disney itself...you don't want to have to spend 6 dollars each everytime you want to go to the park.... what hotel in downtown???

Re: HELP! Which would you book?

i'd go with option 2 ... it's cheaper, closer and has the free shuttle ... not like you'll be spending THAT much time in the room anyhow

DEFINITELY number 2! That shuttle can get expensive......you're talking at least an extra $24 per day!

Re: HELP! Which would you book?

DISNEY IS MY FAVE PLACE IN THE WHOOOOLE WORLD!!!

My advice is option 2. $6/pp- per shuttle can add up a lot! Esp if ur like me and come and go to and from the parks.

Downtown Disney is AWESOME! We go everytime that were in Orlando (BM, wife and goddaughter live there). Walking around, shopping/window-souvinere shopping, restaurants, bars, CANDY APPLE/CANDY SHOP!!

that's where I'm looking!

The hotel in Option 1 has 5 stars on Tripadvisor and all glowing reviews

The other hotels have between 3.5-4 stars and VERY mixed reviews.

and what about the rating? like #1 out 100.
Take all those reviews with a grain of salt... you can kind of see who is picky or not. I booked a hotel on priceline- sight unseen. It turned out to be a hilton with some great reviews, some really bad. It was totally fine for me. plus we were barely there.
