How do you change your name?

I got married on 9/24/00 and I need to start changing my I.D.s (drivers license, passport, etc.). Where do I start? Since I do not have a middle name, I will be taking my maiden name as my middle name and my married name as my last name. Where do I go first to change this? Do I need to show/give my marriage license to each place I need to change my name?

All advice would be helpful. Thanks.

For us, the process moved extremely fast, though it seemed like forever. We found the house in mid-October and were supposed to be in before Christmas, until the homeowner changed their mind and decided to stay through Christmas. If I remember correctly, owners have the right to delay a closing date by up to 30 days.

How do you change your name?

Just go to motor vehicles with you marriage certificate. That's all you need. Same for bills, etc. You can mail in a copy with payment and they will change it. Social Security is recommended first because it can screw up your taxes at the end of the year. I went over to the building in Patchogue. I was in and out in 5 minutes and had my new card in 2 weeks.
