Re: I know this one should be for the preggo board...

Do the surprise! Next time you can find out. Your willpower should be much stronger first time around. Besides, a lot of stuff you register for SHOULD be gender-neutral (bigger items) so you can use it again regardless of what your 2nd child is.

I can tell you that at 23+ weeks now, I am REALLY glad at our (ok, MY) decision to stay team green. DH is really happy too, even though he was nagging and nagging to find out. I want that moment in the delivery room. And I CANT WAIT!!!

eta: and don't listen to anyone who tells you your kid will be stuck in gender neutral beige and yellow and green clothing. people will bring you gender specific clothing as soon as the baby is born. i promise. if they don't, I'll bring you some (if you stay green).

I'm glad I found out I was having a girl, but if I ever have a baby again, I want to be team green! I think it was nice for the first one because I didn't have anyone commenting on my body telling me I have such a 'girl belly' or 'boy belly'...I would have punched someone in the face . Now that I went through pregnancy, I'm a little less self-conscious and can care less what people say...so I think team green is so much fun and worth the surprise! Either way, the outcome is a baby! .

i like this idea!

DH is one that said he wants it to be a surprise....so when our time is here, maybe this can be a compromise

I agree that it is a very personal decision. I don't think I would find out (although I would be VERY tempted!!)...however...if I was pregnant and wanted to know this is what I would do:

Have the tech write down the gender and give it to you in an envelope. Bring the envelope to a bakery and ask for the bakery to bake a cake with vanilla cake inside and to use food coloring in the cake batter to color the INSIDE of the cake either pink or blue (based upon whether you're having a boy or girl)...then have the cake covered in frosting so that you and DH could cut the cake at home in private and find out what you're having based on the color of the inside.

omg, this is good. this is very good!

I agree with this! Tell you the truth my sister go so much pink after the baby was born that she out grew most of the gender neutral colors before she could wear them.

one other thing!!!! My girl friend from HS had a baby last year - I may have posted about it. She was told she was having a girl and GUESS WHAT she had a BOY!!!! She was totally shocked!!! Even in 2010 they can still be wrong!!! Her nursery was painted pink with all kinds of pink accents and she had a BOY!!!! She had a c-sec, so when she was in the hospital her DH repainted the nursery blue.

Re: I know this one should be for the preggo board...

It really is a personal choice.

I don't want to know. I've been in the hospital when my nephew, nieces, godson, etc were born and some we knew, others we didn't... it was always more exciting with the ones we didn't know.

You can always paint the room a specific color when you bring the baby home (she/he doesn't sleep in their crib for some time anyway) and like another poster said, once the baby is born, people will be buying you tons of clothes so don't worry about that.

Plus when you register for a carriage, car seat, high chair - go with black, gray or white. You can always add some pink or blue accents once the baby comes and then you can use it again with your next child no matter what they are! If you buy all pink stuff this time around, then when you have another baby and it's a boy, you'll have to go buy all the same stuff again!

Re: I know this one should be for the preggo board...

Having 2 children already for my 1st I was totally surprised it was a great experience. For my 2nd we found out just because (this way made it easier when choosing names)

Go with what you want

Re: I know this one should be for the preggo board...

We did both. For our first we decided we wanted to know the gender. With the second, we wanted to do it different and I got to say that if I were to get pregnant again, I would love to be surprise again. It was totally amazing. But like everyone else said, it's a personal decision.
