Irene Wants to Move in With Us!!!

AND SHE'S NOT WELCOME!!

Our apartment is partially underground (we're on the 1st floor, on a hill), so our kitchen has one of those basement windows and someone's garden is right outside our window.

DH and I had a quiet evening at home, had some beers, watched a movie, and were just about ready to go to bed at 12am.

I was dozing on the couch before bed and DH suddenly says that water is starting to pour in through our kitchen window!!!! Water was literally filling up in the well outside our window...to past the half way mark!!!!!!! We were freaking out and took baking sheets to help capture the water (we don't have any buckets..ugh)!! It was literally INSANE and our kitchen was getting soaked. The flooding subsided and I proped the pans so that when water comes in again it will be directed right into the sink. Thankfully I did this because the flooding happened AGAIN 2 more times after the first occurred but the pans were there to capture and direct the water into the sink. It worked perfectly!!!

I haven't even gone to sleep yet because I am so wound up from this and I'm afraid it's going to happen again. DH and I are going to sleep in shifts to keep an eye on the window flooding and I can't sleep now (too wound up), so he's sleeping first.

Here are some pics of what I put together! It's crazy but it works. DH was amazed..haha. It helps SO much because we don't have to stand by the window with the baking sheets if it happens again. We just need to keep an eye on it in case the pans fall (which hopefully they won't!!!)

Thankfully we still have power!!!! Let's hope it stays that way!!
