Mothers Day
I lost my mom when I was little and because of it, I pretty much despise mother's day. In spite of that, I do my best effort to pay respect to my aunt (godmother), grandmother, step mom and now mother in law. I will give flowers, cards and such and we'll usually do brunch or dinner. So, I try.But...MIL really annoys me. Shes one of those moms who think that mothers day is the single most important day ever and she needs to be pampered and have everything done her way, no matter what. There is 100% nothing wrong with that, I just have no patience for it. This year, my mom's birthday is mother's day weekend (it usually falls around the same time) so I think I'm extra pissy and it's annoying me more.
I'm trying so hard to be good since its our first mothers day as a family but its tough.
I guess I'm not looking for advice, just needed to vent a little to those who will let me be a brat.

Re: Mothers Day
i'm sure you can count on DH for support... let him handle his mom and the 'pampering' and whatever. it's a hard enough time without having to manage your MIL's expectations, so you should let yourself off the hook for feeling that way. it's perfectly reasonable

Re: Mothers Day
I don't think you're being a brat at all!MIL should understand how you feel and if you're not into it.
I give you a butt load of credit for trying as hard as you do.
I guess you just have to grin and bear it though
what else can you do? DH should be understanding as well...

Re: Mothers Day
I really don't think you're being a brat at all. I'm very sorry that you lost your mom at a young age
I hope your MIL understands why you're not yourself that day, and that you're doing the best you can.

Re: Mothers Day
Do what you need to as this is a hard day for you. I applaud you for being as strong as you can while dealing with this difficult day by celebrating those mothers that are in your life. Lean on DH for support but in the end do what you need to.

Re: Mothers Day
Thanks ladies. I really appreciate the support. I'll be ok... I'm usually angry/upset for the days leading up to it and then I'm fine day of. I put my focus into those that I do have and get thru it.

Re: Mothers Day
Just wanted to give you hugs and say I don't think being you're being a brat in the least bit. I'm sure having your mom's birthday fall on mother's day this year will make the day even harder than it already is. Hang in there.
