Need a spark!!!

Since we have gotten married all we do is fight about money. We lived together for 6 years before we tied the knot, but now we have joint bank accounts and it is really putting a damper on our relationship. We put all of our wedding gifts into one account and have decided to each put an additional $1200/month into the account so taht we can save for a home. Well, it just seems like the $$$ doesn't seem to be growing and I don't know where it is going. So, I get annoyed and accusatory and he get defensive and furious and the night is ruined and has gone as far as to ruin a weekend. How can we make this situation easier and less tense?

Need a spark!!!

Maybe you are setting your goals to high. When you are starting to save, you must be sure to set a reasonable goal. Also, make sure you set aside some money in your budget for a couple of luxuries (fun stuff). It's important that you don't set a budget so tight that it makes you tense about money all the time. This is my experience. We seemed to get more stressed when the saving goal was unreasonable. Hope this helps

planning and saving

I am the saver and Rob is the spender- on good things..so I can sympathize. I have a GREAT financial planner. He laid out many diff senarios based on our take home and last 2 income tax statements. let me know if the two of you would consider sitting down with this guy for a good length of time. He will show you how to save from $10-$1000 and put it towards your goal of a new home. It works for us!
