Need your input-1 yr anniv vaco

Hi Guys
I am hoping to get your opinion on this. For our one year anniversary (which isn't till September), I wanted to go to Europe. I was looking into tours there since I have never been there. Then I heard negetive feedback on tours and also noticed that alot of hotels provide '2 twin beds' in their rooms which makes things a little less romantic IMO.
I wanted to go to Paris and London for a little over a week. Did anyone ever do this on their own and how is the accomodations?
