Pitter Patter
of little feet? Are you guys expereincing this-, or pressure from your hubby or fam? and how do you handle it.
Yes, I'd love kids...but I want to be able to stay home with them for the first few years. With me as the major breadwinner, its not in the bottom line for a while...yet I will be 34 in Feb. Am I panicking, scared, or just need some time off??
a bit of everything!
thought it was just me
but glad to see that others are wrestling with this.
Me too! I'm a big penny pincher but know that there IS value in the stuff you're buying. Our cute little couches from IKEA won't be here 20 years later like the furniture my parents had. Sounds like the couch you're looking at will. As I said before, if you've got the cash and can do it, go for it. If not, keep those folding chairs just a wee bit longer :o)
RE: babies. We'll, is it 'wouldn't it be neat if' talk or 'I think we should start trying' talk. IF its speculative, then try to keep that in perspective.
Take your time.
Phyllis, take your time and do what is right for you and your hubby. I'm 34 as well and sort of feeling my own pressure, or not pressure, but a feeling of wanting to have children. I, as well, am the bread winner and I'm lucky enough to have a wonderful day-care center right downstairs in my company. I want to wait a little too and save or whatever, but I'm not stopping it if it happens. I actually went to the doctor last week for a regular visit and asked her to put me on the pre-natal vitamins. I'm taking them just to get in shape. Besides, they are great for your hair and nails - hee hee. You'll know when it's right. I didn't want to start thinking about it 4 months ago, but now the feelings are starting to come to me naturally; don't know why. Everytime I turn around, there are children in front of me or pregnant women, etc. It's weird.
a bit of everything!
Breadwinners & babies
I work in advertising.
Glad to be here :)

Breadwinners & babies
I can't help but notice how many of us have assumed the traditional male role of breadwinners. How every interesting and exciting for us! Just curious - what do you ladies do? I'm a commercial real estate developer. Based out of Stony Brook...
As we've discussed, this also causes complications re: leaving work for children etc. There was an interesting article in Time Mag re: working women and the conflict with having children. Worth a read....
marketing
Really? Handle any commercial real estate accounts?
We're in the process of interviewing a few groups for marketing. We're looking for one firm that can help us put together a strategic plan + assist w/media relations, web presence, print materials, etc.
Will do! n/t

Kate, I am glad its done. Must be a great weight off your shoulders.
Please let us know how it turned out! :o)

I know what you mean my husband is driving me crazy for kids. We are both 29 and right now I am the bread winner but hopefully not for tooooo much longer. There is a part of me that really wants kids but then I would love to stay home for a while and care for them but I couldn't do that especially right now. If it should happen people say that no one is ever financially ready for a child.
a bit of everything!

Hi there- I think this post was actually in response to my original posting.
Well, I am past the age of 28...I am 32 and I am NOT ready for kids.
and, actually, I am getting a bit tired of people asking me when we are starting a family.
Pitter Patter
It's never a perfect time to have kids. Once you have them you can never go back. I had my first at 21. I think you shouldn't wait to long. Looking back I think 28 would be a good age to be a parent. (As long as your finacially secure.) It's nice not being the oldest Mom at the school functions. The younger you have them the longer you can enjoy them and see them grow up. Just have a career to fall back on if you have to work. (when they go to school)
For us, the process moved extremely fast, though it seemed like forever. We found the house in mid-October and were supposed to be in before Christmas, until the homeowner changed their mind and decided to stay through Christmas. If I remember correctly, owners have the right to delay a closing date by up to 30 days.
goals??(long one) who am I?
hi glory, I commend you on beginning your three year program. I think that it is just wonderful.
Goals? For me? funny, no one ever asks me that question.
I'd like to be financially secure enough so that when I do have children, I can be a stay at home mom. At least until they begin school. We are on the road to that. The thing is I am a saver and Rob is a bit of a saver...but more of a spender. Hard to explain.
Pitter Patter - Phyl and the girls...
I read all the postings to this message, Phyl, and I'd just like to comment more than anything...
I'm the 'breadwinner' but not by far...we're both engineers of different disciplines... I honestly didn't think people would comment having kids...but it's happening. It's only been a month since the wedding!!!
goals??(long one) who am I?
Thanks for your encouraging words on grad school, Phyl! It was a decision to make when I wanted to do something for me. My husband (still sounds wierd), like yours, is full of 'hobbies': volunteer firefighter, frat alumni officer, etc. Not to mention all his family and friends are in the area.
WHAT I ..
want to do b4 kids???hmm good question
Dont really know, haven't really thought about it.
