question about jewish death rites

Ok im having trouble wrapping my mind around this as a catholic. My grandma was jewish and this is only my second jewish funeral.

When u die you go into the ground. your spirit lives on through your children and family. Right?

As a catholic it comforts me to know my family who's passed are in heaven. Jews dont believe in heaven at all right?

There is an afterlife in Judaism, but there's no distinction between a 'heaven' and a 'hell'...its more like its just one place.

If you read into the scripture some it seems like there could be different levels of this place, with people who were not so nice in their lives being lower down...but nothing is very clear. Its not really spelled out anywhere. When the Messiah comes, those who were worthy will be reincarnated to live in the new, beautiful world.

DH's mother's family is Jewish, and they do believe in an afterlife. They are not all very religious, but some of them are, and like I said, all of them believe that the spirit lives on. HTH!
