Salem, MA?

Has anyone been here? My sisters and I are gonna stop and spend a day there after our Boston trip this summer.

Whats there to do in Salem? What do you recommend?

I heard it was super cheesy..but my sisters like that kind of stuff.

TIA!

Re: Salem, MA?

We went for our junior trip in highschool. It was kinda cool. We mostly just did sightseeing. We actually spent more time in Quincy and Boston than we did in Salem. We spent a good chunk of time at Quincy Market which was cool since it's so big and then also went to Six Flags on our way home.

Re: Salem, MA?

i went a few weeks before halloween two years ago. We had a good time ... we walked around A LOT and there were some good things to do/see.

The house of green gables is there so you can get a tour.

Across the street from that, was an AWESOME candy-store ... they hand-made everything right in front of you so that was cool ... and they had some delicious fudge

There's a 'cool' cemetery (we didn't go so i don't know what makes it cool).

At the time, there was a street fair so we walked around there for a while.

You can go on a ghost tour if you're into that ... but read reviews before booking anything.

Re: Salem, MA?

We went there for DH's friend's wedding and we enjoyed it. There is a harbor that has cute little stores and great fish places.... and then of course all the old buildings, hotels, museums, ect.

We stayed in an old inn and my DH tried to convince me it was haunted. he even had his friends emailing me telling me 'stories' about when they stayed their with their families. Dork.

But yeah I digress, its cute.

Re: Salem, MA?

Went for Halloween so there was alot going on - We had alot of fun. I liked the cemetary if you take some of the cheesy ( theres a few cheesy things going on there) tours they tell you more about specific gravesites and headstones of people that were involved in the trials and some fishermen people. The candy store is awesome and theres a nice shop across from the peabody museum if the owner is 'in' she is a delightfull with - very famous but I dont think shes ever really there. I want to go again one halloween and hope to stay at the Hawthorne Hotel - the place books up literally in January for October. All in all if you dont give an F about the witch stuff its still a nice place to spend a weekend IMO
