Sick inlaws - what's my role? (long)

Its been a rough weekend for our little family and I'm a little lost.

My MIL has a life threatening diseases. She was hospitalized for a week 2 weeks ago and we brought her back to the ER on Saturday. Chances are she'll be in for a minimum of another week, maybe 2. I'm struggling with what my role is.

Karen
I am so sorry to hear about your mother in law. I don't have the exact same situation but I can offer you what i would do.
Basically when I grew up I had a lot of visits to the hospital to see my father there. He has multiple sclerosis and often was in the hospital. My mother takes care of things for the most part but I am her support.

As Heather said: 'I think his family is lucky to have someone like you to be there. Someone who is strong and understands hospitals and what to do.'

Thanks, I do appreciate your support!

Today is day 3 and she's not doing much better at all. We're all quite concerned. She can't even catch enough breath to speak on the phone.

Make matters worse, her nephew - my husband's cousin - died Saturday night. My MIL and he were very close. We obviously haven't told her yet and - after consulting with her doctors - are waiting for her to stabilize so she is physically strong enough to handle the news.
