What name should I get my diploma in?
I'm graduating with my masters in May, and I haven't legally changed my name yet. I'm going to do it at some point before the end of the year... but idk when....I'm just being lazy about it.Should I get my diploma in my legal name now or what my name will be by the end of the year? I'm hyphenating, so my maiden name will always be in there. Does it even matter?
TIA

Re: What name should I get my diploma in?
I am graduating with my masters in May, as well!I am having my married name put on the diploma. My mom had my undergrad diploma beautifully framed. If we ever have a house large enough for an office/library I will get my masters framed too so I want it in my married name because this is my name now!
I have changed my name like 75% of the way (social security, work) but still not entirely. NYU actually still has my maiden name on everything so thanks for posting because this reminds me to follow up with them....

Jen, do you even have an option as to what name you want on it? If you haven't changed over your school recrods are you allowed to put anything different on it?I am getting another one in May too but I haven't changed my school records yet. I'm in the hyphenating boat with you too.

Re: What name should I get my diploma in?
NYU has a name change form that was totally quick to complete. Most of my school stuff (name on class roster, etc) still comes up with my maiden name but my diploma will be in my married name.I'm sure every institution has different policies/forms. I suppose if you haven't changed anything over and therefore have no documentation you won't be able to just pick what name you want...

Re: What name should I get my diploma in?
i added my husband's name but was able to do it without the hyphen (if i couldn't i was just going to take his name)I wanted to keep my maiden because I am still in school doing my master's. I only kept it for school. I had planned on leaving everything 'first, maiden'.
I changed everything else to just 'first, married' name. well guess what, school made me change it to what was on my license bc of financial aid.
so now i am stuck with first, middle maiden, married. Not a huge deal but i only kept maiden to keep it the same at school. If i could do it over again i would have just left it alone until i was done with school or just kept husband;s name.
I have been contemplating going back to ss and dmv but my passport was due so now i am stuck with all 4 names on license and passport for 10 years, Keep it til your done with school!
good luck!

Re: What name should I get my diploma in?
I wasn't married when I finished my MBA last May so I have my maiden name on it. If you have the option of changing your name on the diploma but not with the school then I would put your new name on it since you'll be married when it's done.

Yeah you would think that would be the process lol--but I called them today and asked, and they didn't care what name I had it in.
