What would you do? Job related.

So after the new year I need to decide if I'm going to continue working part-time at an office or start working full time from home with DH.

I will be getting a monthly check regardless that will be enough to cover my bills and food. If I start working from home it will take some time to start generating extra income but it will take a lot of stress off DH because he is in dire need of an assistant. If I continue working part time we will have a lot of extra money but DH will be working very long hours and have to watch our son after he gets home from school.

What would you do?
Keep working part-time, save a lot of $, have a stressed DH?
Start working from home, make enough $ to get by, any extra work will be extra money, have a less stressed DH?

I'm so torn. I do like $$$, but I feel that if I work hard enough I'll be able to make as much as I'm making part-time here, but it's not guaranteed.....

ETA: My part time work has nothing to do with my career now. I am a voice actress and DH owns a talent agency. Right now I work at a doctor's office. I help out DH when I can but usually when I'm home I'm spending most of my time keeping our son occupied and out of DH's hair so he can work.

Can't DH look for an assistant who can help him with his work load?

That's the thing. DH really needs someone to answer his phone thoughout the day and do audio editing for him so that he has time to book jobs. To hire someone that knows the business and is trained in that would cost at least as much as I'm making part time.

Re: What would you do? Job related.

If I were in your shoes, I would probably help hubby out and be home. If money is not a concern, it seems like it would be the least stressful option - where you can be there for your son when he gets home from school, help out the hubby de-stress, and it sounds like you guys would still have financial stability. Have you guys worked together before? I know a few people who have said they would never do so because it could lead to problems, etc...hubby and I work in the same company and it's been amazing, so I think just assess that and see if it works for your relationship.

Goodluck!!!

Re: What would you do? Job related.

DH and I worked together 2 years ago when we were first setting up the business. It was tough because there wasn't too much for me to do since we were just starting out and the work wasn't coming in. I went and got a part-time job to cover the bills and have just been here ever since. I think it would be an adjustment but once I get the hang of things it would be pretty good.

I dunno. I think DH are going to sit down and really talk about it after the new year.

Another benefit would be that my mom is thinking about retiring this year and she works in the same field that I am working in part-time, so it would be great if she could take over my job whenever I end up leaving.

Could you reduce your hours at your part time job some more? This way you could help DH at home, but still get a little extra money.

Re: What would you do? Job related.

I wish I could, but I'm the only employee here so my only option would be to either keep the same hours or find a replacement.
