X-post from LIF no pull harness

Has anyone used this? Shamrock is horrible to walk. He is constantly pulling- so much that his front paws are off the ground and he is running on his hind legs. No matter what I have tried he still pulls.

This harness attaches the leash in the front by his chest and it is supposed to stop the pulling.

I tried that too- he has no interest in the treats- he just wants to go, doesnt know where he is going but he just goes.

I read in a book that when they start pulling to just stop and dont go anywhere until they stop pulling and eventually will look back at you to see where you are. Then youre supposed to go and if they pull again stop again ...

I tried this. It doesnt work.

Good luck! My dog wants to rip my arm out sometimes. My older thankfully is good now .. just took 5 years.

Re: X-post from LIF no pull harness

Celia, I've used this...

over the head harness

It works great. Sam is 90 lbs and Lilah is just a bundle of muscle... and I was so afraid they'd pull over my mom when she walks them..

It looks odd, but they got used to it. At first, they'd just try to If they try to pull while wearing it, but they know the 'leave it' command, so they would stop when asked... The good thing about it - is that gently turns their head back toward you.. and stops the pulling!

My sister used this for her hound dog and it worked! I think she called it the 'gentle leader'

I know! I was so against it at first cause it looks cruel... but after fracturing my sholder when Sam pulled me down chasing a bird... (landed right on it on the edge of the curb!) I had to try something... They really do get used to it and I've not been dragged to the ground since!

That's what I did when we trained Irwin. It actually helped a lot, he's perfect on walks. I think it also helped having him fixed. He calmed down a lot after that. Lucy, not so much.

My sisters big dog, Sassy Mae, is a 50 pound beagle/Bassett hound

We are getting him fixed next month. I are really hoping that he calms down.
