a silly question of the day.
just thought I'd ask a silly question and see what people were told about their parent's weddings.THE QUESTION--Where did your parents or step-parents or any other older people who are significant to you GET MARRIED?
(hoping that if your parents aren't married, you still have someone in your family with a good story to tell).
OK---Here's mine:
My parents were married at a catering hall in The Bronx called the Paradeen Manor but it was later knocked down when they built a huge road (I think the road is the Cross Bronx Expressway).
Other facts: My mom says that engagement announcements and printed menus were not done in her day. Then I found BOTH of those from her wedding!! Also, she had black and white photos because color was very new and expensive at the time and now she thinks it is funny that we all WANT black and white!!!!!

Re: a silly question of the day.
My FILs got married at the Polish-American hall in Suffolk somewhere. The clincher- my FFIL and his sister had a joint wedding.
Can you believe sharing your wedding day with your sister/brother!

Re: a silly question of the day.
My parents are from Italy and were married there. The church and restaurant are still there. And the old cobblestone bridge that they took their favorite wedding photo is also still standing. This summer we went to visit family and the two them took a photo on that bridge (27 years later) and then the whole family took a photo on that bridge. My mom was being sentimental.

My parents were married in 1975 at Lennards of Great Neck... I think they paid like $18 a head back then! Can you imagine? I am almost paying that much for the Viennese hour!

My parents were married 53 years ago in a Chinese restaurant with about 50 people. Their whole wedding cost $500.They have a slide album which I am contemplating making a real album out of. Slide albums (where you view them through a view finder) wwere very popular back then.
Yes, my parents are older-they had me on the late side too.
I have their wedding pic in my dining room next to mine.

My parents were married 30 years ago and had there reception at Queens Terrace. It is now some kind of house of worship (maybe pentecostal church). My dad surprised my mom with their honeymoon to Bermuda at the recetion. They got it all on film. My mom was SOOOOO happy. A family of 4 gave them $35 as a wedding gift.

Re: a silly question of the day.
My parents were married 30 years ago at a friends house in Westchester. They have a crazy story-My mom went to have her hair done and hated it, so she took the whole thing out.
My grandfather was a baker, so he made their wedding cake. My mom had to carry it on her lap in the car from the Bronx to the house in Westchester.
They were waiting and waiting to begin the ceremony, but the rabbi had not shown up an hour after the ceremony was supposed to start. They called him and he had forgotten - he thought it was the next week!! Luckily, he was home and came, even though it was late.
Because they had to wait so long for the rabbi, they ran out of soda, and my dad had to go out to the store and get more.
They went to Niagra Falls for their honeymoon, and when they got to the hotel, the hotel had no record of their reservation!
Luckily, they were able to find a room and have their honeymoon!!
So, even with all those wedding distasters, they still have a happy marriage 30 years later!

Re: a silly question of the day.
My Mom and Dad got married somewhere in Queens she wore this totally outragous SILVER totally 70's gown if I had a pic on my pc I would show you because it's so well so 70's. It snowed and my grandpa made the limo drive around the church three times before he would let my mom get out and marry my dad. He wanted my dad to sweat it out a lil.My mom and my step dad ( my dad passed on when I was younger) got married in 1995 and we made sure she had the wedding of her dreams. She got married at Maria Regina and the reception was at a Knoghts of Columbus in Merrick (I think) It was so wonderful and she was so happy. The reception was fun and it was were I realized I came from a long line of drinkers lol.

My parent got married in Trinidad in a Catholic Church I really dontknow where they kept the reception but looking at pics it looks like the yard of their house there ( have to check with them on that one) They did have colored photos and limos their favors were engraved stirrers with names and wedding date and ashtrays with names and wedding dates. They had beautiful cakes.

Re: a silly question of the day.
My parents got married 34 years ago at someplace in Western Suffolk that is now a FUNERAL HOME!
The priest who married them (who also married my grandparents 30 years earlier) could not remember my mom's name and just kept calling her 'the bride'! My mom has forever joked that their marriage isn't official because the priest never once said her name during the whole ceremony!

OMG I loved reading all of your responses, boy have times changed! My parents got married 33 yrs ago, major HippyWedding. They got married the Saturday after HS graduation
She wore a long-sleeved A-Line dress, with a big a$$ HAT. My aunt was her MOH and was totally in charge(being 3 yrs older) she's still the family 'Boss' today- she made all the girls wear long pink dresses and she had to standout in powder blue, they also wore the big hats and everyone had Crystal Gale hair!No joke! To their knees long. The guys had white tuxes and pink ruffled shirts..the kicker was they all had lambchop sideburns. Everyone looked exactly the same 'cause it was 'the style'. Both my parents looked so nervous in their pics(had both B/W & Color) like they were going to
any second. Huge reception at Astoria Manor (now Astoria World Manor) I saw the bill- it was $12.95pp for the works! They went on a honeymoon to the Virgin Islands,my moms favorite pic is of her riding a DONKEY and.......
Guess who was a Honeymoon Baby???

Re: a silly question of the day.
my parents got married in 1980 at the Town Hall in Islip...with 2 of their friends as witnesses. the four of them went to Capt. Bill's in Bay Shore, right afterwards.they felt it would be silly to have a wedding--as they already had a house together, as well as a 3 yr. old, (my brother) and a 6 month old (me!)
they just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in april with a huge party in city island.

My parents got married in the city and had their reception at a hotel in Manhattan. I think it was the Edison but I am not sure.My mom said the whole reception cost $2,500 for 150 people for a sit down dinner.
FILs were married at Astoria Manor, they said they paid $18 a person.
My, how times have changed.
