I actually saw these white ribbon wands in a magazine that move in the direction you aim them at....I would probably want to do that w/ rose petals..not sure yet. I definitely want to be able to see in pictures what is being thrown.

I think I will be doing ribbon wands in the colors of my wedding. I saw it in a picture and the wands with the coordinating colors of the Bridal Party looked really nice

Thanks ladies. The rose petal pictures did look beautiful. I think that petals are the prettiest and best bet. I also love the riniging of the bells idea!! My church is fine with the rose petals being thrown, as long as they are not thrown inside. But, I hope that the flower girls will be able to put the rose petals on the floor where we walk, as long as they don't toss them around.
Our church has the same rule, nothing can be thrown inside of the church. However, outside is different, we can throw whatever we want. I was leaning towards the rose petals because they are prettier and they really won't get caught in anyone's hair (gotta look good in the pics..lol). I'm just worried about red ones staining my dress (is it possible?). I also was thinking about the ribbon wands because I saw them in a Martha Stewart magazine.
Well, if we do the petals, we're gonna put them in baskets at the exit of the church. On the way out, people can grab a handful and toss. I thought making the petal cones would be wasteful since the guests could only throw petals outside the church.

Re: Any ideas on what to throw when leaving the Church?
It's possible, but not likely with gental use. The red rose petals won't stain your dress if they just fall on it. . . however when youare walking over them I would suggest making sure not to step on the bottom hem of your dress and kind of grind the petal into the dress. That will cause a stain of red. Do you know what I mean? It's kind of hard to explain lol. Also when they start getting handeled too much, and get smushy, the pigment could stain. *Good tip about lilies* If you have lilies in any of your bouquets, make sure that the florist removes all the little orange pollen things, they will stain terribly!!! And only a GOOD washing gets it out. If your still worried about the red, go with pink petals.

I was thinking of doing the whole bubble thing, but secretly stashing a bubble blowing machine thingy in the garden area but the entrance to my church...I will have someone start it up while i'm on the receiving line and by the time FH and I get outside it will be like bubble heaven. I know it sounds like it may be too much...but it really has a great effect. If the weather cooperates the bubbles should circulate really well....then I don't have to worry about the inability of most people in using the tiny bubble wand.I wish I had pics to show you, but i am sure you get the idea.

I was just in my friend's wedding a few weeks ago and she used ribbon wands since the church didn't allow her to throw anything.. they were all white.. looked really pretty & easy and neat!

we did an herbal wedding mixture (lavendar, rosemary, thyme, sage, rose and daisy petals)It definitely went down my dress, but I definitely did NOT care at the time. I was too happy and excited because I JUST GOT MARRIED, that nothing really mattered

Fake rose petals are a good idea, you could get them at any craft store, like AC Moores or Michaels. However where ever you are having the wedding may have a problem, beause they would probaly have to sweep them up after, unlike real rose petals that would just be biodegradeable. I would check with your place first.
