Because my reception site failed us in 100 different ways, we had mini disasters from the time the reception started to the very end.

Nothing compared though to my mother falling and shattering her shoulder during our Mother/Daughter dance. She was able to stay long enough for us to cut the cake but than had to go to the hospital. It was heartbreaking but we try and joke about it now.

omg aww that's terrible!!

Re: Any Interesting Wedding Disaster Stories??

My mom works with someone who went to a wedding the same night as mine. There was a power outage for about an hour (I think it was due to an auto accident where a pole was hit).

The only other one I heard about was on here, I think. Some stuff and $$ was stolen from someone's bridal room during a wedding.

There was another girl on here who had a problem with her hairdresser and I think she just blew out her hair and it looked really nice anyway!!

Just remember, these things don't happen all the time. Far from it, in fact!! So many weddings go off without a problem!

OMG, that's horrible! Glad to see she looks back on the day with a smile, though!

Re: Any Interesting Wedding Disaster Stories??

I got sick for my 1st wedding. I hate a 'hot' dressing with my salad at Wendy's the day before. Got sick the whole night. I had to take breaks trying to get ready for my 10am wedding ceremony. I was still nauseous and weak. And man did I look white. We did not know if we would be able to get married.

Of course, I wish now we had not. But that's a different story.

Re: Any Interesting Wedding Disaster Stories??

Unfortunately, a bride I knew changed venues less than 2 months before her wedding and the new location could not fit the # of guests she expected, and she had already sent invites out!

Rather than postpone the wedding or find another venue, she switched the reception to a cocktail style reception (but it was still 5 hours), thinking that people would mingle and everyone would not need a seat at the same time. She thought that people could basically take turns sitting at the tables. Well, the guests caught wind that there wouldn't be enough seats and when the doors open, they sprang for the tables and put their purses and coats down to reserve the tables for their family and friends.

Some key relatives were left without seats or with cocktail style seats along the dancefloor and across the room from the other relatives. The MOB did not have a table. The bride and groom did not have a table. And to make matters worse, the hall she had it in 'forgot' to inform her that they had guests staying at the inn who would need to cut through the reception room to make it to their hotel rooms! This was apparently the only access. So there were strangers walking across the dancefloor all night.

Re: Any Interesting Wedding Disaster Stories??

Oh, I almost forgot, I was at a wedding where the bride was sick. She was throwing up and they were not sure if she could even leave the bridal suite. She was finally introduced partway through dinner. She danced her first dance with her husband, then sat down at her table and watched the reception for a little while. The photographer got some photos and then she was back into the bridal suite.
