Re: Anyone else start dieting today or this week?

We started a group dieting thing at work today. There's seven of us and we are all going to keep one another in check. Each week we're going to give out 'prizes' to those who lose the most...my goal fifty pounds in 8 months...I'd be happy with 20...and then my dress wont fit and will need major alterations (the stupid salon INSISTED I order the next size up)....but I'll look great for the honeymoon!

Re: Anyone else start dieting today or this week?

I bought a treadmill on Sunday...now I just have to wait for it to be delivered. I need to lose weight before my dress comes in because I went on a diet before I went looking for a dress so now I need to get back to that weight....pre non-stop eating binge since thanksgiving.

Re: Anyone else start dieting today or this week?

I just started my weight loss saga today. Went to the gym only to find out that I gained the five pounds I lost in November! But, I did take a yogalates class (don't know if I spelt that right) and did hard cardio for 20. My goal is to be 122 on the wedding day! I weighed that in high school, so why not dream a little!

As far as dieting, I may go back on the Suzanne Somers diet. It is kinda similar to atkins, but you can eat fruit and whole wheat carbs. If atkins and south beach are too strict for you carb lovers like me, somersize may be for you! It sounds like a corny diet, but you don't feel like you are dieting on it, and I lost 10 pounds the last time I tried it in like a month.

geesh, i sound like an infomercial..

Re: Anyone else start dieting today or this week?

I too need to lose at least 30 lbs by september. I refuse to go looking for dresses looking the way I do. I started today and kinda felt good about it. I ate carrots for brealfast/lunch and for dinner I slipped a lil and instead fo getting the wendy's Chicken BLT salad I got the Chicken strips salad =o( but it's still a salad, for a snack I had an apple. I also did 30 mins on the treadmill. Man I'm HUNGRY!! lol

Re: Anyone else start dieting today or this week?

Hey girls! I see we will all be miserable for at least a few months! But well worth it, when we're all sexy in our dresses! Just wanted to share a little trick... if you get hungry between meals, but don't want to eat something with a ton of fat/cals.... drink a cup of tea. You'd be surprised at how filling it really is. Last night all my friends were chowing down on Dorito's and Tostito's with dip and I had two cups of tea with sweet and low.. does the trick and it's sweet too! Good luck!

Re: Anyone else start dieting today or this week?

I lost 25 lbs on Weight Watchers and am still on it. Nothing else works for me like that plan. You eat what you want, just stay in your points range. And guess what -- I still eat Doritos, but they are the 'Light' Doritos. And they taste just as good to me!!

Exercising has always been a problem for me (I'm a couch potato), but I did drag my *** on my treadmill last night while watching Will and Grace!

Re: Anyone else start dieting today or this week?

i'm back into running! my goal is the Marine Corps Marathon in October. i ran one 4 years ago in san deigo and was the smallest i'd ever been and felt the best! so just going to run my a$$ off literally! and then the motivation of the white dress has me dieting as of the start of the new year, no sugar or white breads and pasta, as well as limited alcohol and diary. i can already see a difference and the WHITE DRESS motivation is helping every time i have to choose what to eat!!

so YES i have started this week! WOOOHOOOO, lets lose those L-B's!!!

WW is the way to go!!! Healthy, flexible and easy (once you get the hang of it). Last year I lost about 20 pounds in 6 weeks. My mom lost 25 pounds last year (in about 2.5 months), and now she's back on it again and she's lost another 10 lbs!!!

It works!!

Re: Anyone else start dieting today or this week?

Hi Ladies--funny enough, I saw this article on CNN.com on my way home last night. Sounds like a good plug for Weight Watchers!

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A review of 10 of the nation's most popular weight-loss programs found that except for Weight Watchers, none of them offer proof that they actually work at helping people shed pounds and keep them off.

Only Weight Watchers had strong documentation that it worked -- with one study showing that participants lost around 5 percent (about 10 pounds) of their initial weight in six months and kept off about half of it two years later.

However, the researchers who conducted the review published in Tuesday's Annals of Internal Medicine stressed that the lack of scientific evidence should not be viewed as an attack on diet programs.

'There are no data on weight loss when you go to a health club, either,' said Thomas Wadden, a University of Pennsylvania weight-loss expert and the study's co-author. 'We hope that doctors and patients will use this information to make more informed decisions.'

About 45 million Americans diet each year. People in this country spend $1 billion to 2 billion per year on weight-loss programs. But millions of those who enroll in weight-loss programs every year do not have much to go on when choosing a plan because few studies have been done that pass scientific muster.

The review aimed to replace glossy ads and dramatic testimonials with information about program components, safety, staff qualifications, cost and effectiveness -- and should serve as a call to programs to conduct more strenuous research, Wadden said.

Karen Miller-Kovach, chief scientific officer of Weight Watchers International Inc., said of the findings: 'Our commitment to science and research has increased over the years and is ongoing, and it's nice to see this validation of what we've been doing.'

The weight-loss plans examined included Jenny Craig Inc., which typically provides prepared meals and diet and exercise counseling.

Lisa Talamini, chief nutritionist for the Carlsbad, Calif.-based company, said Jenny Craig will soon start a large study of the sort urged by the review authors.

She also cited a recent analysis by The Cooper Institute, a research organization that focuses on exercise, that found people who followed Jenny Craig for a year lost 15 percent, or an average of 22 pounds, of their initial body weight.

The authors of the latest review could not find any published evaluations about another big commercial plan, LA Weight Loss. They also said there was insufficient evidence to prove the effectiveness of self-help programs like Overeaters Anonymous and Take Off Pounds Sensibly.

As for doctor-supervised, low-calorie diets Optifast and Health Management Resources, which cost around $2,000 for the first three months, the data on their long-term success rates are not highly promising, researchers said.

However, they said such plans still can be appropriate for severely overweight people who need aggressive weight loss.
