My cousin lives right out side of Mystic (Stonington I think). I love that area. Beautiful houses and just a hop on the ferry to LI and a short drive to Providence, RI where she works.

FH and I put a down payment on a house in Shelton CT, its the next town north of Stratford. Its a beautiful area, and the houses are affordable. The commute to NYC is about 80 minutes- but I do over an hour now anyway (from Queens!

) so thats not so bad. Plus I plan on getting a new job closer once we move there.

Here is a pic of the model home that we are buying-sorry its so huge I cannot figure out how to resize.

(ok, pic did not come out- I am going to try and save it into shutterfly and resize)

How is the area and school district and is it really desolate or like long island

My brother just bought a house in Fairfield- I hear it is a 10 min ride form the pt jeff ferry.

Darien is also a very nice area. DH's cousin lives there.

OK, here we go- this should work.

The house in the pic is the model house- ours is going to be different color siding and will have a two car garage on the side, not in the front.

I like Shelton a lot, schools are good and its a great location between Stamford (where FH works) and New Haven (where I will look for a job). Its not a mecca metropolis, but it is near enough to both cities so that it works for us. I live on the Queens/LI border now, and it takes us about 1-1 1/2 hours to get to Shelton. You take I-95 the whole way. Also, as an FYI, Darien is really expensive- Stamford, Greenwich and Darien are all more expensive than Long Island.

My coworker is looking at homes in CT. She and DH have found some reasonable $$ homes in Norwalk and Trumball.

My ex's family was from northern CT...around Hartford. While the city of Hartford did not impress me, the suburbs are beautiful-around the Southington/Berlin area. Not a reasonable commute to NYC, though.

My cousin is in the Coast Guard and is stationed in New Haven--he got married last October and we went up to CT for the wedding--it is very pretty in New Haven-especially in the Fall when he got married--sorry I don't have more to offer!
