I wanted to pay them on my own, but our bank (Washington Mutual), wouldn't let us when we were getting our mortgage. I wonder if I could inquire about doing that now?

I would rather pay on my own and collect the interest. Our taxes are almost $8K a year, that is a decent amount of interest, no?

I dont think we pay them on our own, they are included in our mortgage bill.


Us too. I don't even remember being given the option to pay on our own.
