Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

My BM's are all different shapes and sizes, picking out one dress that would look good on everyone would be too difficult. I am asking them to pick out black separates from the same designer. Hopefully everyone will find something they like, and looks good on them. I'm trying to make it as simple as possible!

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

I picked out the color and my girls had a choice of 7 dresses. Each one picked a dress that fit there body better and everyone was happy. They all were happy that they got to pick the style. I think it is a great idea!

That's exactly what I am looking for JORO, I hope they find dresses that are unique and work for their own body type.

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

I know, i really love that photo! i cannot take credit however, it is from a Serafina add.

In thinking about it however, I think you could totally copy it with another manufacturers' separates. and i know Jim Hjelm and W&Watters have some shorter dresses like the one on the far right. Dr.Jenn, let me know how it goes, i bet it will look beautiful!!! plus, your girls will be so much happier!!

I gave them that option and they all wanted to wear the same thing, except the MOH, she wore a different dress.

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

I picked the color, but am letting my BM's compromise on the style- I have 4, all with extremely different body types. I want them all to be comfortable in what they are wearing- they won't have fum if they're uncomfortable. The only catch is they all have to agree on it, but Idon't think that will be a problem- they pretty much have the same taste.

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

that seems like it would be a great idea. i would think though you would need to specify what designer so that the color would all be in the same shade. what if someone wanted dessy and the other wanted impressions? then the color wouldnt be exact. hmm, just my 2 cents . . .

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

I picked the color and my bridesmaids picked their dresses. But they picked the same style. Even if they did not I would not mind. I thought that was fair since they were paying for their dresses and did not liked the style I picked. So now eveybody is happy :)
Also I looked at Niecey's photos and some others and having different dresses in the same color is very interesting and does add some pizazz!

I did this and my BM's loved picking their own style.

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

i am so glad i am not the only one doing this. some people told me that it's better to have them all in the same dress, but i didn't want that. all 5 of my girls are different shapes and i wanted them to be comfortable. i picked the color and the desginer and they could get any dress. the material happened to be the same for all so that wasn't a problem!
i think the girls will be much happier this way! plus if they say it's a dress they don't like, they have noone to blame but themselves!

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

I went to a wedding where this was done, and it looked great, but still required some work on the part of the bride -- she wanted to make sure they all picked different dresses. If two are the same, and the others different, it may look a bit odd.

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

I had 2 sets of girls wearing the same dress. (So 6 girls but only 4 different dresses) I didn't require them all to make sure they all had different dresses. I just let them pick what they liked. I didn't think it looked odd. I think it really depends on how picky you/the bride is.

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

Me too, I picked the color and the they picked the top, adter looking at several designers we decided to go with impression, they have a collection of seperates and I'd say there are about 40 tops to choose from and maybe 5 or 6 different style skirts. All BM picked the aline skirt and MOH picked a skirt with a little bit of a train this way she would have something different from the rest of girls.
I thought there would be some drama like, 'she picked the top I wanted' but all their first choices were different from each others.

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

I have too many bridesmaids to let them all pic the dress they want. I was going to do seperates, but I find it too expensive! My FH SIL has to buy 3, becuase her two daughters are jr bridesmaids. So basically, I let my sister, the MOH pic the dress! Now I can't please all 12 girls, so they just have to deal with it! But I love the seperates look. Do you think I should change my mind? Do you think 12 of these dresses is going to be too overwhelming? It goes great with the wedding dress!

Re: anyone picking out a color and letting bridesmaids pick the style of dresses?

my sister-in-law did this and i think it looked great. she picked a line of dresses - five or six different styles if i remember correctly - and a color. we all ended up picking a different style dress and everyone looked and felt great! as for uniformity, the dresses will be the same color and designer so the maids will look uniform. i say go for it - your bridal party will love you!
