best way to clean your engagement ring
hi guys i was wondering what is the best way to clean my diamond, i dont want to keep putting it in the jewelery cleaner i feel it might ruin the diamond or am i just a dummy. please give me hints, i use the cleaner once a week and use a cloth from tiffanys every other day, can you ruin the diamond by cleaning it too much?

Re: best way to clean your engagement ring
My jeweler told me that as long as you are using a jewelry cleaner that is intended for the type of metal and stone you have that it's fine to clean it as often as you like.

Re: best way to clean your engagement ring
I use Dawn dish detergent. I let it soak in a solution of Dawn and Warm Water for like 10-15 minutes and then use a soft toothbrush to scrub it a little and then rinse and it sparkles like crazy :) :) :)

Re: best way to clean your engagement ring
For a quick clean, spray on some Scrubbing Bubbles and just rinse it off!!! It's amazing!!You won't ruin your diamond. Think of it this way, even a piece of glass won't really get ruined from over cleaning!!! And diamonds last even longer!

Re: best way to clean your engagement ring
I clean my diamond in a specific cleaner I got at Tiffanys for diamonds, gold, and platinum. My ring is set in platinum so I use that cleaner about once a week, maybe a little more. It works great and my jeweler said nothing bad could happen from cleaning it often b/c I am a constant cleaner. The tiffany solution takes like 2-3 minutes so sometimes...If I want a quick easy clean-up when I'm getting ready or running out the door my jeweler suggested two things...
tooth-paste (not gel) and a SOFT bristel tooth-brush. rub softly around the entire ring and wipe clean with a cloth, he said you could run it under hot water with any hand or dish soft soap to get the residue and tooth paste smell off. OR...
Take a coffee mug and fill it a little less than half way with water and put a little dish or hand soft soap in it (about a dimes worth) should do the trick. Put that mug in the microwave for about 2 minutes, be careful it gets very hot... sometimes it pops! I usually take it out just before 2 minutes because it bubbles so much. (this is like what they do at the jewelry store with the hot steam-- same idea, hot water cleans well) ....
Then, drop the ring in with a FORK (meaning, I do not suggest throwing your ring in there b/c if it hits the hard surface of the mug it could loosen the stones over time). So I glide my ring down with a fork b/c it is obviously too hot for my hands. I let it sit about 30 seconds, any longer is not needed. Then, I rinse cold water through the mug so that the temperature goes down and I can stick my hand in and get the ring otherwise I do the fork trick again. PLEASE BE CAREFUL LADIES... DON'T ACTUALLY PUT THE RING IN THE MICROWAVE WITH THE MUG WHILE WARMING IT UP!! I ALMOST DID THAT ONCE WHEN I WAS NOT THINKING WITH ANOTHER PIECE OF MY JEWELRY--THANK GOD IT WAS NOT MY E-RING!!!
Happy cleaning everyone!!
Oh and my jeweler said that the toothpaste trick works for gold--both white and yellow, platinum, and diamonds.
The hot microwave water-- works on gold-- both white and yellow, platinum, diamonds, any other stones or jewelry, and EVEN silver (basically all jewelry!)
