Re: Brides who tried on a lot of Ballgowns - need your help! :)
I flat out told her that I was very sorry, she is very nice and helpful, but she just wasted an hour and a half on me because she refused to tell me who manufactured it. It wasn't the saleswomans fault, but I told that I cannot do business with a store that willingly withholds information from it's customers, and not providing them the necessary information to make a complete assesment. It's a scam, they try to get you to purchase something without disclosing the full information of the quality, product, etc.
I don't care how much cheaper I can get it elsewhere, if I'm getting good service, i will most likely purchase it there. If they are blantantly lying to me, then I cannot trust them, it's as simple as that. It's ridiculous to expect people to fork over over a grand to find out who designed their dress.
Wow, this turned into a long rant. I'm sorry, I'm just frustrated. :(
I completely agree!!!! You did exactly what I did in several shops - except i hadnt found 'the one' at those shops - its dishonest and I dont like to reward bad behaviour!! It sounds like an Eve of Milady like the other girls said and definetly search the knot - you can search skirt style and neckline!! Please let us know if you find it!!!

Posted by dleenyI would be pissed off too, don't get me wrong. I'm just trying to look at it from their perspective. They?re resorting to a pretty extreme measure. They?re probably losing a ton of business? why else would they rip the tags out? You know.

A lot of stores do that now because people go to their stores, try on dresses and order them online for less money. In a way, I can?t blame them for doing that.
I can, that's obnoxious and poor business practice. How do you know they aren't ripping you off then. This whole wedding racket stinks!
ps: I bought my dress for over $800 cheaper than when I originally saw it for.

You said you would 'most likely' buy your dress there, but if you found it for half the price, I doubt you would still buy it from them.
I found my dress and loved it, searched the internet, found someone with the same dress, they told me who made it, and I found it for almost half the price!!!! I was completely convinced I would but it from the first place I saw it, they were so nice and helpful, but half is half.
It's a nice sentiment to say you would buy it because they were so nice to you, and maybe some people actually do, but money is money. And when you are paying for a wedding, everything counts.
I guess what I am trying to say is, the stores have a right to make a dime, and it is your responsibility to do your homework, and if you don't feel like it, you have to pay their price......sorry to be so blunt, but that's the reality.

I do my homework, but if a retail outlet is going to go about making their dimes by illegal practices, then I won't give them my business regardless.
Find a dress for half price is nice, but truthfully, I would look at that as a 'too good to be true' kind of deal. i woulnd't purchase my gown off the internet, but that's just me.
I have no problem spending money where I can see and feel the quality, in the products AND the services.

I didn't get my dress of the internet, when did I say I did? I searched for it and found it almost by accident.
And what is so illegal about removing a tag from a dress? Is it fair that people who give customer service and have a store for you to see the dresses have to go out of business or lower their prices, when a bride can find the same dress somewhere else or with the click of a mouse?
It sounds like your gonna get taken if you don't watch out and get all the info you can. I'm not saying go crazy trying to get the best price, but find out exactly what you want and find it in a salon, whether the tags are on it or not.
If you call a salon to see if they have the exact dress you want and they tell you they have it cheaper, you go there and see the tag ripped out, are you gonna leave?
I doubt it

Many get their dresses off the internet, I was making a statement as this tends to be the most discounted way to get a dress. I have not been dress shopping long, but this is what I gather from my observations. However you got your gown is not of my concern, only you seem to be accusing me of actions of which you have yourself done. Truth be known, a discount is a discount, but from what I've seen, it's mere dollars, so it really woudn't bother me if I spent more at one place than another.
It is a federal law that requires garments to have labels. See this website: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/wedgown.htm
Perhaps you should work on your own research skills before questioning those of others.

Re: Brides who tried on a lot of Ballgowns - need your help! :)
Ok I'm jumping onto the tag removal bandwagon. Stores that do this in my mind are deceptive and should be punished accordingly. I went BM shopping to a bridal salon who ripped tag out and had a fight with the woman there. Compeition amongst the wedding industry is huge and is expected. A reputable salon would never rip out tags from dresses. Those who are looking for customer service will go back to where they were treated the best. You can find almost anything on the internet and I certainly do comparison shopping but for something like my wedding dress, I wanted more personalized service. This is where the salon is going to make their money but by ripping out designer tags. I refuse to give anyone who does this my business.

I never questioned anyone's actions, you were all concerned about tag removal. I have no idea what you are talking about accusing you of any actions, and I have done nothing but find a salon who had my dress cheaper. What's wrong with that????????
To me, saving over $500 on my dress is more than mere dollars. You obviously haven't been shopping long or hard enought to realize how to buy a dress, but go ahead, spend extra money, I don't care enough to continue to help you.
ETA
And yes you were making the assumption that I got my dress online, so just leave it at that.
And since when do we follow the law to the letter on everything? Did you ever pay cash to save on sales tax? Oh, gee, that's illegal too! But I won't tell anyone. I guess when it doesn't benefit you, then you can complain.

Wow, are you my sister because you are speaking like you know me so well???
Fine. Let's just leave it at this. I find it hard to believe that you were trying to 'help' since from your very first post you were defensive and downright rude, telling me that I'm going to get taken and whatnot.
I'm pretty much done with this banter, you have your opinions and I have mine. Simple as that.

Wow! Anyway, I wanted to tell you that I got my dress at Fantasia's Bridal and they were very helpful...all I needed to do was bring in a picture and they were able to locate it 1,2,3!
Try searching the knot or do a search for the dress designers that were mentioned earlier in this post. No disrespect to anyone on here, but IMO although many people and companies do bend the rules a bit...that does not make it right or a good business practice. Everyone has aspects or values that they hold important or dear to them and if you feel that customer service and honesty is one of them...and when you are dropping that kind of dough, I can not say I blame you (especially when you hear all those horror stories about people being swindled) then I would say that you should listen to your gut. Everyone does have the right to make a living, but the people who are successful are competetive w/ the market and honest. I'd say if this practice really bothers you, call the NYS attorney general an report them.
