Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!

I'm partial to All Clad too because I had the Caphalon and had to throw them out. But for everyone else who has them they are great.

I would register for a moderately priced set. You can always add to it later.

No matter how much you cook, just remember to take care of them.

I would not put them in the diswasher.

As a reference-these are the pots and pans I use all the time:

8' sautee
10' sautee
1 qt sauce pot (for heating up soup)
8' non-stick-don't scrub these clean..wipe with a sponge
6 qt stock pot
10qt stock pot-when making homemade chicken soup and (lobsters.)

I use these a few times a month. I have others that I use occassionally. You may be better off just getting some open stock pieces that you know you will use. Think about what you cook and how often. Do you make eggs on the weekend? Pasta for dinner? Homemade soups and stews? Will you be more adventureous after your married in the kitchen? Many people do-I know I did.

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!

I don't have Calphalon but I agree that you should register for a good set. We registered for the Kitchen Aid set at Fortunoff after talking to the manager and getting his feedback. We love the set and it was well worth the money. The food cooks much differently than it did when we had our Tools of the Trade (Macy's) set.

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!

We registered for Emerilware, his 10 piece set is $199. I felt that was a good price for starter set since I have no idea how to cook!

From the reviews, it looks like good quality for a decent price which is what I wanted. I figured later on I can get a really good set, when I figure out if we like stainless steel or non-stick better.

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!

Definitely go for the better pots. A $300 10pc set isn't that expensive for what you're getting...we registered for open stock (individual peices instead of a set- so we get exactly what we want) -but chose All Clad....they're closer to $100 a pot and up.

It's worth it. You'll have the pots forever, and the better the pots, the easier it is to cook with, and clean. The old saying- 'you get what you pay for' - definitely applies here.

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!

FH is the cook in this relationship but he is dead set on getting good pots and good knives, he wants a set of knives that are like 300.00 I am so embarrassed to put them on but he said they will last forever which is the same with the pots.

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!

I have to say that I registered for the Calpahin tri-ply 13 piece set and I love it. I figured that if I going to register for pots I want good pots, even if I don't use it all right now. I would never spend that much on a pot set so at least this way people could chip in to get it.
