we're not having a full mass b/c its on a sunday....but we would like to say our own vows after the traditional.....

If you want a mass on Sunday, talk to your pastor. It can be done with a special dispensation if he is willing to get one. My sister had a mass on a Sunday.

Re: Catholic Brides question

You can not write your own vows in most churches...they want the standard said.

Re: Catholic Brides question

Looks like we are getting mixed reviews on whether you can or can't do your own vows in the church. I'm wondering if it goes on a church by church or priest by priest standard?

Re: Catholic Brides question

If you go to the Diocese of Rockville Centre (drvc.org), it will give you all the information needed if you are getting married in a catholic church on long island. Stated in the diocese home page states that you must use their own vows, but that you may use your own vows after using theirs.

From what I understand your vows are the Catholic Church standard vows. You cannot write your own.

It depends on the Church and also on the Priest. In Pre-Cana that actually give you a book that has different vows to choose from that vary from standard vows.

Kneel, Sit, Kneel, Sit, Stand, Kneel, Sit, Kneel, Stand and then get drunk

That's what my FH thinks of church in the first place, he's a convert. Well, except for the 'and then you get drunk' part.

He also makes me laugh by calling the eucartist a 'Christ Cookie'.
