Catholic Brides- Responsorial Psalm?
Getting married next week
and I have two musicians playing at the ceremony who dont know what they should play at the responsorial psalm part. The deacon who is marrying us is no help really so if you have any suggestions with the name of the music / hymn you used during this I would really appreciate it.Would rather music than someone actually reading the psalm.
TIA

Re: Catholic Brides- Responsorial Psalm?
There is a hymn called 'Loving and Forgiving' that I have heard a couple of people use for the psalm - it's really pretty and the words are appropriate for a wedding - see if your musicians know it.ETA: or you could use Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

Re: Catholic Brides- Responsorial Psalm?
Thank you! do you think it will work as an instrumental piece as I have no singers only violin and flute players? Thanks a lot..

I think typically you have to hear the words of the psalm, so I'm not sure if it would work as an instrumental. But what could be really nice is if you have the violin and flutes playing in the background, and then have someone read the psalm that you choose. That could sound really lovely and give it a little something different.

Re: Catholic Brides- Responsorial Psalm?
I just called the church and they said that the words have to be heard so you are right 'Eire Bride To Be'- you know your stuff!!I could do the instrumental in the background if I can find someone who will be read along with the musicians.
Thanks for all the help!

Re: Catholic Brides- Responsorial Psalm?
We had someone read ours for 2 reasons. One, it was a way to include someone else from our families in the ceremony and second, I think singing it takes longer. Since we had a full mass, I was not looking to make it even longer.

I have heard that the following are popular psalms for weddings (the verses are listed as x:y-z, so you can find them in a bible, and the response is in quotations below):
Psalm 33 (33:12, 18, 20-22): 'The Earth is full of the goodness of the Lord'
Psalm 34 (34:2-9): 'I will bless the lord at all times' (also known as 'Taste and see the goodness of the Lord)
Psalm 103 (103:1-2, 8, 13, 17-18a): 'The Lord is kind and merciful' (also known as :The Lord's kindness is everlasting to those who fear him)
Psalm 112 (112:12, 3-9): 'Happy are those who do as the Lord commands'
Psalm 145 (8-10, 15, 17-18): 'The Lord is Compassionate to all His creatures'
Psalm 148 (1-4, 9-14): 'Let all praise the name of the Lord'

Thanks everyone...I am going to use one of your suggestions. I have left a couple of messages for the organist at the church but because we are not using him and bringing in outside musicians he has not returned my calls!!Strange that!!!

Sorry, I am a doofus. We did have it sung, I was thinking of the prayer of the faithful. We used Psalm 103 the refrain was 'The Lord is kind and merciful'
