Preperation is 90 percent of a good paint job. Proper priming, spackling, sanding and caulking has the ability to make a poor quality paint look great.

OMG am I learning this the hard way. I can't spackle to save my life and it's caused my paint job to look like hell. We are experimenting with colors for the bathroom and plan on redoing some parts so my painting was more of an experiment.

Love the Benjamin Moore lily pad color though!

Some brands arent true to the color you see on the paint strip. I tried Martha Stewart paint once and it came out so different. Since then Ive used BM and loved how I could count on the color being exactly what you are expecting.

We've used several different brands of paint and we've had good experiences with most. We've used Behr several times with success, Glidden several times with success, and most recently we did a room with Benjamin Moore. While I was happy with all three, what I noticed was that the BM color chips do seem very true to color which makes selection easier, they also tend to have better color choices and there was little to no splattering. Hard to explain unless you've done a lot of painting yourself. There's a fine spray that comes off when you use a roller and it's much more pronounced with the other brands than with BM. All in all, I'd say you can do a good job with any of them. The difference is certainly not major. The home depot brands are much cheaper. Almost half as much. But paint is really not expensive as far as home improvements go. The biggest factor for us I think was priming. Priming makes a huge difference. The only paint I hated was Ralph Lauren. They use a completely different method. They use a tint. We tried to paint a room green with Ralph Lauren and ended up having to paint over it with Behr. Good luck!

We just painted our living room and hallway 2 weeks ago and we used Benjamin Moore and I HATED IT!!! It had horrible streaks that didn't go away after the second coat. I wound up buying another brand and painted the living room over. It looked nice in the hallway, but DH did have trouble with getting it on evenly. It just wouldn't blend the way paint is supposed to.

I've never had any trouble with Behr, which is what we wound up going with for the living room.
