Christie's Commentary

I've just returned from my trial up-do & makeup @ Christie's & Co in Bay Terrace. As promised, here's my feedback.

I LOVED IT! The place is great - the people are super friendly. Took me right away - and gave me a little kimono robe : )

Unlike the first place I went to, the folks at Christie's were very professional and courteous. Liz did my makeup - fantastic personality, very efficient & clearly knowledgable about her work product. She gave me color palette samples to choose from (depending upon my look) and kept a record of everything she used - for next time. She told me that she's done makeup for some of the brides in the Demetrios ads... She told me to observe myself this evening - and write down notes about what I liked most and least. Makeup looks different after the hair is done (and they did my makeup first) - and if I want to change anything, she told me to tell her next time and she'll do it (not one of those - "do it my way I know best" people.)

Christie's Commentary

If you don't mind me asking, what's the average charge for something like this. I have a lot of time before doing something like this, but am curious as to HOW soon and what to expect. Thanks......J

I am having trouble thinking of a creative way to decorate it though. Any ideas?

My banquet manager was Charles, who treated us as if we were old friends or family. He was very up front with us, and took at least a couple of hours with us, showing us around, explaining everything to us, then leaving us alone to discuss with each other. Then he came back to answer all of our questions, and was even nice to us when we left, without booking, kissing me and my whole family goodbye, as if he were one of us. (If you're Italian, you'll understand the kissing thing)

Christie's location?

Can you give me the address/phone number? $50 for hair sounds great. I wonder if they travel...my wedding is in Fox Hollow in Westbury.

thanks!

$1800 sound like a LOT to spend on something that lasts for one day...but that is just my 2 cents! Hope this helps!

price

Thanks! I have a LOT to do before I get to that point, but will file that away until the time is right!

I'm actually paying around $1900 for my flowers but that included my bouquet, MOH & MatronOH & 8 bridesmaids bouquets, 10 bouteneires (sp?) (I have a pretty big bridal party), 2 flowergirls bouquets & 1 basket, corsages for the moms & grandmoms & the bouteneires for the dads & grandpa. I also am getting flowers for the Church & pew bows & the centerpieces for the reception (for 20 tables). I don't remember the breakout per item but overall I think I got a lot for my price and the best thing about my florist is that she works out of her home (no tax!) & she only does one wedding a day. So you don't have to worry about your florist rushing off to another wedding and she is very easy to work with.

Is that price just for the trial or for your wedding day? I know many places charge differently for trials and the actual day. And the trial usually ends up costing less money. But if this is the price for the wedding day this is great! I've gotten many quotes and they are quite a bit higher. If this just happens to be the cost for the trial what is the cost going to be for your wedding day for you and your bridesmaids? Thanks a lot Karen you've provided lots of useful info! Good luck... :)

(I think I stole him away from his own PC lol)

Its costs the same for both the trial and the day of the wedding! : )

Actually, in the midst of everything I forgot to ask about my MoH (I do not have any bridesmaids besides her). I'd imagine it would be the same for makeup and less for hair b/c she's just a blowout....But I guess I should find that out, eh?

Thanks for your good wishes! : )

Christie's location?

Honestly, I don't have it handy. But if you call information for Christies & Co Salon in the Bay Terrace Shopping Center off Bell Blvd in Bayside, you can get their number and exact address. Bella did my hair - such a wonderful woman!

I don't know if their hair people travel but it is really easy to get to.

If all else fails, I'd call "Ask Asa" on Channel 4. Seriously - from a corporate perspective, that is just bad business.
