DJ Quotes - how much do they vary???

I'm looking for a DJ and MC for 6 hours, with a single steel drum player just for cocktail hour, minimal uplighting at the venue and a closed curtain photobooth.  I'm getting quotes of $4k and up - seems really high!  Any feedback or recommendations is appreciated.

Depending on the time of year and timing of your reception, I think $4k is going to be around what this costs. Here's how I figure that:

DJ Alone: $1000 for a reception
MC: Additional $500 - $1000
Photobooth: $1000, including the staffing - I tried last year to find a nice one for less than $750 and it just couldn't be done with something nice.
Musician: $500 (at least - it might just be an hour for you, but they might not be able to take another gig that night since they are taking yours)
Uplighting: depends on the venue, but this can definitely range $500 - $1000 or more!

Have your tried Studio 27? You create what you want.  I  was able to get my photo booth for 750 because i used them for Dj, video and photo.
