Your banquet manager can suggest how much to tip your Maitre D, but it's up to your discretion and budget on how much you want to tip. you DON'T have to give them that much if you can't afford it....
and besides $6.00 is A LOT of money!

How many guests are you having? perhaps they said $6.00 because your guest list was fairly small? I can't see you paying $6.00 pp if you have a large guestlist.
