We had two engagement parties, one on LI- about 50 people (where my family is) and one in VA- about 30-40 people (where we live, mainly friends). The first one was held in October (2 months after we got engaged) at my parent's house, the second one was held in January at our friends' hosue (5 months after we got engaged, 6 months before the wedding)...I have seen engagement parties vary from small and simple to big and elaborate, whatever works best for you and FI and your families if you decide to have one. We didn't have one.

Our engagement is only 10 months long and our families are all scattered.

We wanted to save the $$ and put it towards the wedding itself.

People did send us engagement gifts though, which was really nice.

I don't think 3 months before a wedding is appropriate for an e-party.

we had a big engagement party of 90 people. we got engaged in december of 2004, and we had our engagement party april 2005. we are getting married next year. The cost was a bit pricy, but my parents paid for it. You can have an engagement party if u want, but it is so close to the wedding, i would just wait for the wedding and save the money. If you want an engagement party, maybe u can make it small, or have a dinner party type thing. good luck!!

We had a drink special at a bar in the city and had all our friends and young family there... we're very classy =)
