I will feed my vendors

BUT can't help but to think, my employers do not feed me while I am at work and I don't earn thousamds of dollars for one day/night's work.

at $130 a head for vendor meals and having to feed an extra 11 people, i definitely had concerns!!! That was another 1500! My hall only gave 30% off vendor meals and that was after negotiating for non-house vendors.

So, I paid for each to eat at the cocktail, that wasn't cheap either, it was $75 a person. I really hope they realized we were paying for that!

I did call each vendor before the wedding and asked them if that was ok. Afterall the cocktail hour at these LI weddings literally could be just dinner. They said they were fine with that. The band was the one that actually suggested it.

That's an option you might want to consider...

You should remind your FH that the DJ gets ther eearly to set up and leaves after everyone else because he has to pack up. While the reception may only be 5 hours, the DJ might be there for 7 or more.

Most place actually require it. And most vendors would be a little angry if their tummies were rumbling!

Definitely ask the vendor for their preference.. They may want a tip instead of food.

I think all your vendors should be fed meals, they work long and hard and will be hungry.

Even though the thread is old, the bride bumped this asking for 'new advice' rather than reposting the same question.

Feed all of your vendors that are there through-out your reception. No, all the courses are not necessary but an entree at least should be provided.

Don't cheap out folks after all that you are spending. This is something you can work out with your hall.

We feed all the vendors how were at the reception.

If you don't feed your DJ be prepared for him or her to take a 30 min break to get dinner.

DJ's work longer than the 5 hours it takes for you reception. The have to set up and break down before and after. It is really closer to 6 or 7 hours.

I agree that every vendor (no matter who it is) should be fed!!! Unfortunately weddings cost A LOT of money, and everyone wants to save where they can, but I would rather save money somewhere else than not feed a vendor that is performing a service for me.

My friend works for a DJ company and they actually work around a 9-10 hour work day. They go to the studio and pick up the equipment and load it in the truck, then drive over to the catering hall, then set-up, sound check, perform for the wedding, then breakdown, and don't forget they are not done there, they still have to drive back to the studio and unload the truck and put everything away. So they really work very hard that day!

Your husbands out of his mind. You have to feed the vendors, regardless of the amount of hours they are there.Pu the show on the other foot. What if it were him as a vendor, working a wedding. I'm sure he WOULDN'T be happy if he wasn't fed while he was providing his services, paid or not!!!

I am feeding my vendors...I know I am not a good worker when I am hungry so I don't want nothing less than the best from my vendors. JMO

you're all going to think I'm awful but I don't agree with any of you. You are paying them to perform a service to you - not to come and eat. I don't think you have to feed your vendors...esp the band/dj. They are there to play music and entertain your guests - not sit around and take breaks and eat!

I will be feeding my vendors b/c it is free. Luckily I have no charge for vendors so I have no problem feeding them but I will make sure the band does not all eat at once...I don't want them all on break at once. Again - I am not paying them to come to my wedding as a guest and eat - they are there to work. Eat before you come in my opinion! Photog yes...they should be fed b/c they are working most of the day. If i had to pay for my band to eat they would not be eating and they don't require to be fed.

I honestly think you should feed everyone, it's rude to not feed the DJ, and do you really want to piss off the person who is going to help make your reception amazing?

You should negotiate with your hall about the price, that 1/2 price for house vendor thing is such BS! Your non-house vendors aren't getting the same service as your guests, and if they are professional, they aren't drinking either! You shouldn't have to pay full price for them......

BTW, I had to pay almost full price for all 14 of my vendors because DH had a fit and insisted that the band and everyone else be able to drink!!!!!

Also, don't forget that while the DJ is only 'performing' for 5 hours, there are additional hours that are added onto that for travel, set up beforehand, break down afterwards, etc., so the day may be longer for them than you realize.

However, some people just don't have the extra cash to provide them with a full dinner. My hall wouldn't budge with the pricing. It was about $130 for each non-house vendor. And when its that late in the wedding process, its hard to conserve in other places to make up for say 1500.

That is why I had them eat at the cocktail hour. Which actually worked out to be much better for all the vendors. That was a bit more affordable at $75 a head. And the cocktail hour was amazing.

My friends from out of state couldn't believe that their was MORE food after the cocktail hour. ha ha...

Overall, do what you can afford. It seems like during wedding planning you think of money as 'funny money.' And after you can't believe how much you dropped on certain things which can easily equate to another vacation or even mortgage payment..
