Finished Pre-cana (SAD)

Hi Ladies & Gents; Just wanted to share a few words with everyone. We finished our pre-cana last night (Topic was Spirituality). I have to tell you I wasn't thrilled with having to do it in the first place, but last nights class was unbelievable. I feel sad that I won't be with this group of people anymore. Last night, I think we all just became very personal and you kind of share something in that room that stays in that room. I highly recommend it to anyone getting married. Not only do you learn a lot,but since my fiance is not a real believer in religion, and feels there is a higher spirit, or whatever, I sincerely believe something reached him last night because it was so broad, non-preaching, and it was amazing how many other people feel the same as he or I did. I was a little worried about pre-cana because I thought in the catholic church, "YOU HAD TO BELIEVE" or they wouldn't marry you, but that's not the case. If you don't have to do it, do it for the experience. If you are nervous about doing it, or feel it's a bother, sit back and enjoy it, it's really wonderful. Our teachers gave all of us couples a bible last night, big deal right? Well on the inside cover each couple (2) wrote us a personal wish and saying. I'll never lose this bible because of that and everytime I read it, I'll remember this time. Actually, after the 5pm mass next week where we celebrate, all of us couples are going to try and go out for a night. Good Luck

My mom died when I was young and I've been doing this solo. I'm not used to consulting with anyone. My MIL has not offered to do most things (b/c she's sick and can't get around too easily) but I've been very appreciative the feedback I have gotten from her.

Her excitement has been contagous - and she's been very gratelful. All too often the attention is on the brides family and the grooms parents are the the sidelines. It hasn't been all smooth - there have been a few consessions just to make her happy, but nothing that really matters long term.

I'm glad you had such a positive experience - and I hope you're able to keep in touch with the others in the group.

Precana is a great concept - the Church is a community - and in very simplistic terms, PreCana is your community's way of helping you prepare for this step in your life. On so many macro & micro levels, this process is a very positive thing for the community (religious or not)....

Only a fraction of it was about spirituality - a big part are practical life stuff that applies regardless of religion - finances, future goals, running the household, children, communication, respect, expectations.....right down to who is going to cut the checks & who folds the laundry! Very practical & very worthwhile.....
