That's an awesome song! I love that song! Also 'Father and Daughter' by Paul Simon and 'Blessed' by Elton John.

'The Way You Look Tonight' the version sung by Frank Sinatra that was in 'Father of the Bride' can be used for either your first dance or father/daughter dance. For the first dance you can't go wrong with 'At Last' by Etta James.

Do you and FH have a song? You can basically find any version fast-slow of songs these day or if you have a band ask them to play the song slow/fast.

Do you have a song that you and your dad like? Talk to him and that will help. One friend chose 'Landslide' by Fleetwood Mac for her father/daughter dance; another 'Sunrise Sunset' from Fiddler on the Roof and I've heard a lot 'Daddy's Little Girl'.

Growing up my dad and I use to dance around the living room to the Captain and Tenile's 'Love Will Keep Us Together' and Leon Russell 'Tightrope', which if you listen to the lyrics are kind of strange father/daughter dance songs, so were still looking for a song.

For the father/daughter dance, I chose My Girl by the Temptations. My
dad loves that song!!!! for my first dance with FH, we chose 'You're the
Inspiration' by Chicago.

Father/Daughter Dance - 'You Lite Up My Life' Debbie Boone (I used to sing it around the house when I was little)

My first dance: 'Your're the Inspiration' -Chicago

My dad: We are very close and I couldnt decide between 'Because You Loved Me', Wind Beneath My Wings' and 'Butterfly Kisses'(it just came out at the time) so........ I asked my dj if he could make me a mix of all 3. And with the technology they have, it can be done. Did a verse from each...started off with the Butterfly Kisses verse of she'll change her name today.........
Second verse was the first verse of Wind Beneath My Wings....must have been cold there in my shadows.....but he started it past the piano beginning, so it flowed in..
And ended the song with Because You Loved Me, the verse of ...you were always there for me, the gentle wind that carried me......

And when i tell you me and my dad cried our eyes out. He was so shocked at the mix, that each new verse that came on was more emotional than the first. I loved it. I wish I could go back!!!!

Seriously, ask your dj or band if they can do a specific mix if you cant decide. I

Is it wrong that I want to use 'God only knows' by the Beach Boys for my Father/Daughter dance? He's a big fan and I think it would be appropriate. That OR 'Kind and Generous' by Natalie Merchant? Thoughts??

Question- Is the Christina Aguliera song ' I turn to you' inappropriate for father/daughter-
I HATE when you're listening to the words of a F/D dance and thinking - Ew, that's kind of an i'm so in love w/ you type of song.......=)

So I couldn't find anything I thought was inappropriate, but wanted some other opinions !! Thanks

I almost used God only knows by the Beach Boys. I ended up using Lullabye by Billy Joel. I think God only knows is perfect for a father/daughter dance


For our first song we used Marc Anthony's 'Everything you do'. It's not a popular song but the words are beautiful. That's why we chose it Here are the lyrics
