First dance - inviting others onto the dance floor?

What is everyone doing as far as inviting other people onto the dance floor during your first dance?

Someone asked us and we weren't quite sure. We think our song is too long to dance by ourselves the whole time (4 min 25 sec) but we're not sure what we will do.

And, if you DO invite others up, when do they come up? After the verses of the song?

The past couple of weddings I've been to, the DJ invites other people up after the first or second verse of the song, so I guess thats what we will do too

I think its nice to ask the bridal party to come up at some point, and then maybe even followed by other couples. The song we are leaning towards is only 2:25 long, so I think we might just be by ourselves the whole time since it is on the shorter side.

our song was about that long as well so we had bp and guests all come up at once... there was a bit of a lull in the song at one point which is when the dj announced it...

just remember with everyone staring at you, 4 1/2 mins will feel like an eternity if its just you guys up there...

Our song was around 5 minutes, so at about the 3:30 mark, our band leader invited all guests onto the dance floor.

Our song is short and we are doing a swing dance so it will just be us

We didn't, but we had a fully choreographed dance so that kind of affected the decision.

If your song is that long and you're just clutching and swaying I would invite people to join you.

the wedding i've been to (and how i'll do my own) is that the B&G first dance by their selves; after about 2 minutes; the MC/DJ invites the bridal party on the dance floor; and then invites all couples to join in.

Probably just having us and then inviting all the guest including BP to join at the same time when we hit the halfway point.

We are dancing by ourselves to 1 song for a few minutes then the song will change to something a little more upbeat but still slow and we will invite all couples to the dance floor.

We danced by ourselves for the whole song-by the end of it, people were yelling 'get a room'

i have no idea how long our song was but we wanted it just to be us.

We haven't decided on a song yet, and I'm not sure what we're going to do. I've been to weddings where just the bride and groom dance the first dance and where the BP and guests were invited up as well... I'll prob make my final decision when time gets closer....

I was adamant about it just being us. Its not that long of a song, and I just want one moment where we aren't being swarmed by guests

i guess it depends on how long the song is. If we pick a shorter song (around 2.5 min) then we won't invite people up. But I think if it's longer than 3 min, maybe you should invite the guests up so people don't start slowly moving to the bar instead of watching you dance.

We had totally planned on inviting couples onto the dance floor about halfway through/after first chorus. But our DJ forgot.

we had 2 first dance songs. The first was solo so the photographer could get all the pictures he wanted and the 2nd we asked everyone to join in.

At frist I thought we would dance half way and then ask the BP to join, but I think at that point we'll just invite everyone

I personally don't want to dance just us the entire time!!! I feel weird enough being put on the spot for a minute. so I think we will dance by ourselves for the beginning and then invite everyone up.
