Re: Friday Night Weddings

We are having a Friday night wedding and we were also concerned abut people not coming to the ceremony. My advice would be to move the taime down a little. I think 4:30 is pretty early, especially for a Friday. Places don't seem to charge that much differently and that would ensure that more people will be at the ceremony. We our having our ceremony at 6:30 or 7 (haven't decided if we are adding an extra 30 min to the ch yet).

Also, I'm not sure if this applies to you or not but we are having our ceremony at the Reception hall so that people didn't have to go to a church first and then to the reception.

Hope this helps

Re: Friday Night Weddings

Ditto on the 4:30 being a bit early but as all said here the people that want to come will come (and those are the ones you want sharing your day anyway right?). You have another option other than sunday though, you could have a saturday day as well

Re: Friday Night Weddings

Our ceremony was at 3:00 and we had a lot of people show up. I never imagined that many people would be there. I don't regret one bit having a Friday night wedding. everyone had 2 days to recover

Most likely I will be having my wedding on a Friday night. 4:30 ceremony, 5:00 to 6:00 cocktail hr., 6:00 to 11:00 reception. I keep hearing from people (mostly on my FI side) that people will probably not come to your ceremony or come late because they have to work. They said I should have it on a Sunday because people are off. I really wanted a Sat night but sorry it didn't fit my budget. So many people have Friday night weddings now. I don't see the problem. Do you???

me personally if i have a wedding on a fri night to attend i take off only because i like to go to the church ..

most people dont take off. and the few times i had a wedding on friday nights . there was not alot of people in there church ..

i went for saturday wedding because most people dont work on sat and sun..

fri and sun was not an option for me .
fri because of the work thing . with people not coming to the church . and people showing up late for CH.

& sun i did not like because people leave early because they have work the next day. i have been to weddings on sundays and most people left at 9:30 right after the main course ..(but then again the weddingS that i went to were far out LI and everyone lived in BK or SI )

that is why we did march it was a little cheaper then other months so it fit our budget better..

but me i wanted to make sure i had a packed church lol call me a princess (watch no one shows up lol)

however . i think if a friday night wedding is in you're budget then do what is good for you're pocket. the people that mean the most to you will be there any way

edit-because i can not spell tonight lol

Re: Friday Night Weddings

WE had ours on a Sunday, when people were off, at 3:30 in the afternoon and a good number of people STILL didn't come to the church. But, all of my closest family and friends did come, so it is like everyone else said- if it is important to them, they will be at the ceremony, no matter when you have it!

Re: Friday Night Weddings

I don't think it's problem. Even you have out of town guests for example, if you had it on Sunday, they would still have to take Monday off to travel home. So either way, those that want to be there will need to take a day off and as long as they know well in advance, I think you'll be fine. You have to do what makes you happy!

BTW, are you still considering Verdi's?

Re: Friday Night Weddings

My wedding is a Friday night and the ceremony starts at 3pm-personally I am a true believer that anyone who wants to be there will be there even if it means taking a few hours off from work. My cocktail hour will most likely start at 6pm (i have a flexible start time at the Estate @ East Wind) and then the reception will be 7-11pm

Re: Friday Night Weddings

I just went to FH's cousins wedding and it was alittle inconvient since it was so far from us and the church started at 5:30pm. FH had to take the day off of work to make sure we would make it. I dont like going to just the reception. There were definetly less people at the church then the reception but I think you'll get that no matter what day you have it. When people hear wedding they think party not church.

Re: Friday Night Weddings

We're getting married on a Friday night and our ceremony is at 4:30, with CH at 6-7 and reception 7-11. If people want to come, they will take off work. If they can't come to the ceremony, they'll make it for the reception. I'm not too worried about it.

Re: Friday Night Weddings

We had a Friday night wedding for two reasons: money, and the fact that we could not take off for our honeymoon because we both teach. This way, we had the wedding on Friday and spent Saturday night at a hotel in the city. We treated the BP to dinner and The Producers. We got home early Sunday and crashed. It worked out well for us, better than Saturday. I didn't want Sunday because lots of people have to work on Monday.

We didn't have a lot of people at the church, but it didn't help that the weather was really bad. Many people coming from places other than LI couldn't make it on time because of the traffic. Though I liked the intimacy of a small group at the church. And we had a small wedding anyway- about 70 people.

Re: Friday Night Weddings

We're having a Friday night wedding. Our ceremony is at 3:30 and our cocktail is at 8:00 (reception 9-1). There is a lot of time in between so people can come to church in their shorts and then go home and get all dolled up for the reception. We wanted a later cocktail hour so people wouldn't have to rush home from work, get ready, then drive in ruch hour traffic (and of course so we could go to our cocktail hour).

I am having a Friday Night Wedding. Our ceremony (which will be a Mass) is at 5 pm and our CH starts at 7:30. I know that close family and friends will be there.

Re: Friday Night Weddings

We are having a friday wedding too and the 3:30 spot was taken so actually our ceremony is at 1:30 which is really early! But I figure all of our best friends are in the wedding and my family would never miss it so the rest of the guests, well if they miss it its OK as long as the people that matter most are there. Friday weddings are very common and I would rather have a friday than a sunday wedding when people have work the next day. Saturday is just too much $$$$.

Re: Friday Night Weddings

We are having a Friday night wedding and feel the same way- the people that want to be there, will be there. I also know people that would miss the church regardless if it was a Friday or Saturday! So, if they want to be there to support you, I think they will!

It helps, though, that our party is so late.. wedding-6:30
CH-8:30
Rec-9:30-1:30.

Re: Friday Night Weddings

I wanted a Saturday night wedding in the worst way...but my hall only had 2 dates available for 2005 and they were both Sundays.......I also know my family,,and just ecause it is a Sunday night wedding,,they will not be leaving early!! TO them,,a party is party regardless what day of the week it is...Same goes if it was a Friday night wedding.....Family will make it a point to be at your church and wedding...

Dont worry what others think...It is easier to make a comment when it is not your wedding,,,,and in the end you and FH have to do whats best for you...

Enjoy!!
