I had no idea what hand Canceling meant, so I asked my mother who works for the post office. She told me that they almost always Hand Cancel all invitations. It is just so they don't get wrecked in the machine. She didn't say it costs anything

My P.O. is full of crap so I don't doubt that it's free. I did speak to an agent and then her supervisor, both told me the .90 story.

My PO didn't charge 'extra' for hand cancelling. I go in there fairly often and the clerk offered to hand cancel them when I brought in an invitation to be weighed for postage.

I guess it really depends on the PO.

I had problems too....they hand cancelled them but once they got to the distribution centers, they added a bar code at the bottom of the invite....didn't look so good, but at least the inner envelope was fine.

So sorry you had to deal with this too!
