Has anyone every bought furniture from Crate and Barrel?

FH went looking yesterday and we came across a few furnishings at Crate and Barrel that we really liked. Has anyone bought their furniture from there? How is the comfort/quality?

Here are what we are looking at -

Re: Has anyone every bought furniture from Crate and Barrel?

We bought our computer desk and 4 book cases from there 2 years ago, and are not thrilled with the quality. The desk chair is already broken beyond repair, the desk has been fixed twice, and the book shelves are not level.

Crate and Barrell customer service is cranky and not the least bit helpful.

Re: Has anyone every bought furniture from Crate and Barrel?

I've had the opposite experience from Jenn. We bought a sleeper sofa, loveseat, chair and ottoman from them (Radio Days collection) this past summer and were thrilled with their customer service (they were very accomodating to us calling them every week to change our delivery date because we weren't ready) and the couches themselves are of a very high quality fabric (we hope they last through all our children).

C&B has different types of grades to their furnitures and fabrics. An A grade is of much less quality than an H grade. It's also reflected in the cost.

What I will say though is that if you are going to buy a dining or bedroom or living room set, buy it all at once! They discontinue their stuff more than I change my sheets!! The color of the couches we bought in the Radio Days collection this past summer is already discontinued. We have everything we want, so we're very happy. Their delivery came within the first 1/2 hour of thier 2 hour scheduled delivery time frame.

Re: Has anyone every bought furniture from Crate and Barrel?

I just got a bunch of stuff I ordered from C&B. I have mixed feelings about them - as much as I lov emy stuff I hate the hassle and customer service. I ordered two bookshelves - they weren't expensive but the quality if fine. (Although DH hated putting them together - it was the kind you have to do yourself). I ordered a side table and a mirror - came all together and love it - good quality too! I also ordered the steamer bar cabinet - in person the quality looked great so I am excited but it is on major back order...it was expensive - so it better me good quality.

I am a little annoyed though. I ordered everything in early August. The entire order was held because of the bar being on back order. They told me that at the time of order. About 2 weeks after I place the order - they call and rub it in that everything is in but the bar and they will wait to get the entire order before they ship unless I want to pay an extra $60-75. I say no and wait. Well it was suppose to come in last week Sept/ first week in October (they told me that would be the lastest and those are the dates on my receipt) - so I call and it still isn't in but they finally decide to release the rest of my order and waive the shipping charges. They say the bar should be in by mid-October. So I call last week and the nastiest person answered the phone. She basically says it is on backorder and you were already told that - so should I cancel? I was like hold up - I was told by Oct the earliest and so on and she is I can cancel it? It was like all she wanted to do was cancel my order. Now they are telling me mid-November the earliest. She tells me it is due to recent popularity of the item. I know that is a poor excuse (because shouldn't they know how many were on order and how many they could make back in August when I placed the order - I could care less how many people put in a order after me!) and when I tried to get further understanding - she basically stated all she can do is cancel my order. I asked to speak to someone else but she said there wasn't anyone available. I am waiting to get this thing and they will get a letter from me stating my dissatifaction with their service. I don't like to do stuff like that and can be patient but I will not stand for rude treatment when they are at fault!

Thanks for the info girls!

Niecey - I know which bar you are talking about. It is really nice- but they did have a sign there saying that it was backordered when we went on Sunday.

Trish, I'm SO glad your experience was better than mine. I wouldn't wish what I went through with them on my worst enemy!
