Re: Hawaii Honeymoon review, with pictures!!

Teri,
I'm torn between the Hyatt Kaui and the Four Seasons in Maui. Was the beach at the Hyatt unswimmable? Was Maui really that crowded and commericialized? I was at least looking for a town or so to go shopping in or for eating out. What's the town like near the Hyatt? I'm also looking for a relaxing quiet time but would want a couple of possibilities to go out if I wanted to. Thanks alot and I'm glad you had such a great trip.

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon review, with pictures!!

Thanks again :)

I highly recommend my travel agent - we used Kristine C. from Liberty Travel in Levittown. She was terrific, and was a referral from my BM who used her last year for her own HM. The # is 731-5300

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon review, with pictures!!

6/11/03 hmmmm - it's a tough call, since it's such a personal choice. There are still restaurants and things to do on Kauai, but life is much more laid back there. We didn't even try to swim at the beach there, since the pool was so awesome. Many people did go in, but I didn't want to, since you heard about strong rip tides, rocks and the occasional shark! I'm just much more of a pool person myself.

There are still towns nearby the Hyatt on Kauai with touristy stores - it's not that rural, but it's definitely not commerical (no fastfood places, etc) I personally liked that for a change!

When I researched, I found that Oahu seemed to be very commerical, with a ton of night life, etc., Kauai seemed to offer little night life (other than nice restaurants) and Maui seemed to be a combination of the two.

Hope this helps

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon review, with pictures!!

Teri.
Pacificos and IO's were two different restaurants and we did go to both. They were really good. We bought a book on the island and went with a lot of their reccomendations. It seemed a little strange when I first got home with no planning since it did become a BIG part of my life. I am very busy with work, back to exercise classes, spending time with friends so it is nice to have my time back once again. I feel like it is a passage of my life with the planning. It was a wonderful experience. I am glad I got to have this experiece and meet some wonderful people along the way. Lots of luck to you!!!

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon review, with pictures!!

Cindy - I feel the same way - I can't wait to get back to normal life. I post somewhere on here that I'm looking forward to so many 'normal' everyday things! So many weekends were consumed with the wedding, which was fun at the time, but I now need to catch up with them! Hey, we should talk about this on the newlyweds board! LOL

we just got back from HI too..

we just came back form maui and kauai..had a great time, its so beautiful there..and so much to do. definately do a helicopter ride in go with interisland. they are the only ones who do the tours with the door off and you get amazing pictures.
eat at the beachhouse in kauai..and tidepools at the hyatt.

in maui our favorite 2 restaurants were the plantation house..go for a sunset dinner. and then gerards was excellent, request a table on the porch..its so cute and romantic.
david pauls is yummy food but not really any good ambience. seng sei (spelling??) is a must if you like sushi..sooooooooooo good!!!

def. do the bike ride up the volcano..go on a snorkel trip to molokini crater, we went with paragon adn it was great. and we did the road to hana and loved it.

its a tough choice as to what island to hit..i have to say the resorts are much nicer in maui then kauai..well as far as rooms go. we stayed at the ritz in maui and it was just the best. i wasnt too thrilled with the rooms at the hyatt but the grounds are incredible..great restaurants, pools..and just beauty!!!!

if you have any questions, plese post!!

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon review, with pictures!!

Congratulations on your wedding and what seems to be a beautiful honeymoon. I am new at all of this wedding stuff, I just started planning for my Oct. 2003 wedding, but I was just wondering how the prices are in Hawaii (if you don't mind me asking) because that would be my dream honeymoon but I don't know if we could afford it.

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon review, with pictures!!

We booked shortly after 9/11 so our flights were cheaper than normal. Our whole package was about $5K, which isn't bad when you factor in 12 days worth of hotels (2 of which were 5 star), (our airline tix were free - FF miles) inter-island flights, rental jeeps, breakfast each AM and all other taxes.

We booked with Liberty Travel in Levittown. Maybe they can price out a few ideas to see how much to budget.

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon review, with pictures!!

That does sound like a really good price. All the prices I hear were around $6000. I would really like to go for 2 weeks but we may only afford 1 week in Hawaii and maybe 1 week somewhere cheaper.

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon review, with pictures!!

Dana,

We booked Hawaii @ Christmas and it cost about $6000 for two weeks. It's a stretch for us, but we thought, when will we ever get back? Besides, it's hard to do all that travelling in one week!

Teri,

Thanks for all your advice on Hawaii!! I'm so excited to go!
