Re: HELP! I need to pick a reception hall on a budget!

I would definitely suggest possibly switching the month first. April through October are the peak months for weddings.
Choosing a Friday night over Saturday helps too.
We had our engagement party at the Coral House and it was about $48pp in April but on Good Friday so we got March's rate b/c of the holiday. I would highly recommend CH. Some people here didn't like CH, but honestly, there will always be a few that won't be happy regardless of what situation. We loved the place when we visited and that was our decision maker. Food was great, place is wonderful. I suggest you take a visit and meet with Kristen. She is a sweetie pie.
I would also suggest visiting the Scotto Brother locations. Swan Club may be good too.
Good Luck on your decision.

Re: HELP! I need to pick a reception hall on a budget!

We paid $57pp at the Swan Club for a July Saturday afternoon wedding. I was also quoted under $80 at the Stewart Manor Country Club. Look into a Friday night or Sunday afternoon wedding - they will generally be less expensive. Also, avoid the fall months. When we looked at reception halls, we were told by several places that the fall months were the most popular and therefore most expensive. Good luck!

Re: HELP! I need to pick a reception hall on a budget!

Hello Ladies! Thank you so much for all of your posts. You gave me some great ideas. We are considering moving our wedding from August. We are planning to get married on Sunday evening (which is not so desireable). We are looking for places close to Nassau County or in Nassau because most of our friends are coming in from the City and don't have cars. You have also given me some great negotiation tactics. Keep them coming!

Re: HELP! I need to pick a reception hall on a budget!

Actually, we got married in August, and it was one of the cheaper months - by at least $20/head in some places. If we would have waited until Sept/Oct, our PP increased anywhere from $15-25pp. We also got married on a Sunday evening, and that also helped to save us money, and you may have better luck with some of the more popular vendors since most weddings are on a Saturday.

Re: HELP! I need to pick a reception hall on a budget!

If you are flexible with the time of year that you want to get married, you should definately be able to get something under $80. We got the Watermill in Smithtown for $69.99 per head + tax and gratuity for our February 15th wedding.

Re: HELP! I need to pick a reception hall on a budget!

Another way you can try to work it is find the place you like & see if they have cheaper rates on Friday or Sunday evening. Or if you're game & wanna be creative maybe an afternoon reception.

Re: HELP! I need to pick a reception hall on a budget!

How about a cocktail party rather than a sit down, at the Nassau County Museum of Art, or the Queens County Farm?

Re: HELP! I need to pick a reception hall on a budget!

Look into a Saturday afternoon wedding as well. You'll be surprised how less expensive it is. There are tons of catering places that offer great prices when it's not a saturday night wedding.
