How to get a Refund due to cancellations - COVID 19

So background - my fiance and I had to move our March 2020 to wedding July 2020 and most likely have to move again.

They said no refund at all because they have "availability" meaning around Christmas or a random Thursday in November which everyone knows are bullshit dates and also they want to charge us more money! It is not like we wanted to ever move the date.

At this point the stress and sadness over the whole situation we rather just cancel for now and be able to pay our bills but all they care about is their bottom line.

Brides- has anyone been able to get a refund from their venues? Or has anyone involved a lawyer?

I'm so upset that they can be so hurtful - I really regret picking this venue and hope to warn other brides out there before choosing them.

RE:How to get a Refund due to cancellations - COVID 19

From what I hear, EVERY venue is operating like this. I know mine isn’t offering refunds and charging more for me to move my date from a sat night to a Sunday AM. My friends who have different venues as me are experiencing the same thing. However, my venue did say that if they are forced to be closed on my wedding date, they would let me postpone for no fee but I have to wait it out.

Thanks for the response!

So sorry you are going through this too - also why would a sunday AM cost MORE?! thats insane.

So we talked to some lawyers and friends that work in the event industry - basically its not legal what they are doing really. The government is cancelling events - not the couples. And also just bad form - weddings run on reviews.
Not sure what else to do but I'll keep this post updated - I'm sure there was many other corona brides

So sorry you're going through this.  My wedding is scheduled for 10/10 and we have decided to scale our wedding down big time.  Not sure what some of our vendors are going to do yet.

RE:How to get a Refund due to cancellations - COVID 19

I am going through the same thing! I just had tonpostpone for a second time!! It has been such a heartache.

I keep getting told. "Well you have a contract."

Its just so hypocritical because the contract works both ways. Even though they couldnt hold up their end of the bargain, I am being forced to pay. We were canceled 5 days before our original date in March, so we paid in full. Then just had to postoone our August date to next summer. They wanted us to ignore guidlines and have our full event even though CDC says only 50 people.

It is such bad business! I've been reviewing my venue everywhere I can find!!

We are going through the same thing. Our  wedding was scheduled for March 2020 at Greentree Country Club and it had to be cancelled because of the governor’s executive order. The venue refuses to refund our $26,000 deposit. It is SO much money and frustrating. We are currently working with a lawyer. I’m sorry for everyone who is experiencing this.
