We thought of leaving an empty seat for my FH's father as well. But, after much thought, it would be too sad for his mother. Instead we are going to have a memory candle (on the gift table) and bud vase with a white rose (sitting on our table). We are also putting a special acknowledgement in the ceremony program. And most importantly, we are going to have the band play the chicken dance in his honor.![]()
Apparently, he was quite the party animal.
I think this idea is the best! This way, everyone will see it and if you have a great picture next to the candle and a single rose, everyone will understand the meaning behind it.

IN LOVING MEMORY
WE LOVINGLY REMEMBER [MOTHER AND FATHER OF FH], AS WELL AS THOSE WHO WE HAVE LOVED AND LOST THROUGHOUT OUR LIVES. WHO, WITH THEIR OWN UNIQUE, INDIVIDUAL AND UNFOGETABLE PERSONALITIES HAVE TOUCHED OUR LIVES IN SUCH A WAY THAT WE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT THEM. THEY ARE HERE WITH US TODAY, LOOKING ON WITH A SMILE, AND MAYBE A COMMENT OR TWO.
WE LOVE AND MISS THEM VERY MUCH.
That is beautiful!

Brian's Mom passed away then he was a little boy and he wants to have a candle lit for her so he can look at it and think of her. He doesn't want it during the ceremony. Any ideas on how to do this and where to put it? We are getting married in a Church. I suggested leaving a seat empty and said that would be upsetting.
Thanks for any help in advance!
Kim
We are honoring my grandpa and fh's grandma with a prayer in the ceremony. But, it doesn't sound like your FH would want that. Maybe you could do it when you light the Unity candle, also light a separate candle or something?
You could also light it at the beginning of your reception?

Re: How to honor a deceased parent?
I lost my mom 2 years ago. I am dedicating my mass to her and also doing a rose dedication during the ceremony. (My sister did this also and she even had a picture of her on the altar. It was 9 weeks after my mom passed and the priest suggested it.) I also bought the memorial candle with her name on it, we are using that to light the tapers to use for the unity candle. I'm also having a special song dedicated to her at the reception and will dance with my dad to it. This is in addition to the regualr father/daughter dance. We were so close and this has been the hardest thing to go through. I want to do make sure I honor her because my sister and I were her life and she did and sacrificed so much for us.
