Re: i am sick to my stomach re:sandals honeymoon

One person can look at a glass of water and say 'wow that glass is half full..while another can say 'yep that glass is almost empty'

kinda cliche yes..but I have had so many friends go to all different SANDALS locations and have heard nothing but RAVE reviews from all the places...Jamaica, St. Lucia, and another one in Jamaica.
reviews..Sheviews....GO and ENJOY!!

I am also addicted to trip advisor and use them pretty much as my basis for booking stuff. Have yuothought about doing a cruise? Royal Caribean is good, as is Disney and I have always had a good time on Carnival. Just a suggestion.

Re: i am sick to my stomach re:sandals honeymoon

I'm going through the same thing right now!!!!!
I see some reviews that are great and others that talk about the bugs in the room and the noisy planes that are constantly flying overhead.

It is hard to know exactly what to expect...but we can go with high hopes and not let the little things urk us and I am sure that we will probably have a great time!

Re: i am sick to my stomach re:sandals honeymoon

Hey,
I know how you feel. i am a TRIP ADVISOR addict. i always check tripadvisor before i book a trip. i have to say...they are usually pretty right on the money, but you have to decide on what is important to you and what is not. We went to Sandals in the bahamas about 2 years ago. i didn't discover trip advisor until after we booked. i admit i was sooo worried. Our trip wasn't a bust by any means. We did have a great time, the resort was beautiful, definately didn't regret going, BUT...a lot of things that were said on trip advisor were true. so you have to take the good w/ the bad. We liked Sandals in the bahamas, had a great time, but probably would not go back...might not do another sandals either...only b/c been there done that sort of thing.
If it makes you feel better i did hear that the sandals in St. Lucia is AWESOME!!! it is supposed to be the best. think about it and you can change. we actually are going to Anguilla and staying in Cuisinart Resort and Spa. But originally we were booked in Cap Juluca. we just switched without a problem...And this was all b/c of TRIP ADVISOR. Cap Juluca is suppoed to be one of the leading hotels of the world and they had some sketchy reviews which made us turn to Cuisinart instead, which had great ratings...so i know how you feel!!!!! Don't worry. it is your HM and no matter what it will be INCREDIABLE!!!!

Re: i am sick to my stomach re:sandals honeymoon

There are going to be good and bad reviews for every place. It's hard to rely on them because you don't know where the reviews are coming from.

We went to Sandals Halcyon in St. Lucia for our honeymoon and it was gorgeous! It was spotless and the staff was wonderful.
But the majority of these resorts are outside, so of course here are going to be bugs and lizards and those sorts of things....it's nature!
Your honeymoon will not be ruined by insects though!!
Keep doing research on places that you think you would like to go - but it's really not practical to rely on complete stranger's reviews when you're booking your honeymoon!

Good Luck!
ps....Sandals are really expensive resorts....we dont' vacation often and wanted to not have to worry about the honeymoon

Re: i am sick to my stomach re:sandals honeymoon

Has anyone else heard that you share your private plunge pool? That has me worried because this is the package we were thinking of, but we certainly do not want to share with other couples-and the travel agent never mentioned this...

these ideas are great! thanks! i'm looking them all up.

i should add---we're on a budget of $5000-6000 so some of these places are a little pricey for us. also, we don't want any kids to be around!!!! we'd like adults only.

That was our budget to and we managed to go to Royal Hideaway for 10 days...all thanks to my fabulous TA, defintiely worth a shot, Hayley at Beach Bum Vacations

Re: i am sick to my stomach re:sandals honeymoon

If it makes you feel any better, I have been to Sandals St. Lucia---even after I've read bad reviews. I NEVER SAW A ROACH OR LACKED HOT WATER. They were probably some mosquitos...its a tropical island, but there weren't hordes.

It was a beautiful trip and a classy place when I went. I will say I went there about 5 years ago...things may have changed but I cannot imagine they have gotten so terrible.

the travel agent (she's a vendor on here) called me and told me. she said a lot of people don't realize it until they get there. they are definitely not private pools! i was very disappointed. she said up to 4 more couples share it.

i've gone on 3 carnival cruises and love them!!! but unfortunately, i've been to almost every island because of that so there aren't really any cruises left that i'd like to do.

i definitely wouldn't do disney---it's FULL of kids and i don't want that on my honeymoon!

thanks for the suggestions though!

Maybe try another all inclusive besides Sandals. We are going to Puerta Vallarta and staying at an all inclusive that looks breathtaking called Villa Premier Hotel and Spa and staying in a honeymoon suite. Check it out online. Good luck.

I was thinking the same thing. We were supposed to go to Sandals in Jamaica but the more I read about it, the less it sounded like us. We are older, looking for more quiet on our honeymoon. So thanks to tripadvisor, we found the San Souci Resort in Ocho Rios- it was perfect and the most beautiful resort we have ever been to. It was also about 1000 less than Sandals.

i wish that were true for me! for some reason, mosquitoes LOVE my blood. i get eaten alive every summer.

my aunt lives in oceanside and if we're sitting in her backyard in the summer, i will come away with dozens of huge mosquito bites and she and her family don't get ANY!! i've always been this way.

a vacation in fire island was ruined back in high school because i was so eaten up--even on my face!! every part of my body gets attacked and the bites are HUGE.

so i'm scared to death to go to a place where i know they have a mosquito problem. yeah, i expect moquitoes and other bugs in outdoor, tropical places, but if they're overrun with them, i'm really scared!

i wish i had pics to show you--you'd be AMAZED that someone can be bitten so many times at once!

Re: i am sick to my stomach re:sandals honeymoon

It is very true that now matter where you go, there are always going to be people who have loved it or hated it. I went to a Sandals in Jamaica and loved it. The service was impeccable and the room we were in, was beautiful. I didn't have any problems whatsoever. The funny thing is I went down right after Hurricane Ivan and was so surprised to find every thing in wonderful condition. I didn't see any cockroaches or anything else along those line.

This past spring we went to another all inclusive that had great reviews and I hated it. I would never go back!!!!

The moral of my post, don't believe everything you read. Speak to people that have actually been there and they can give you an honest opinion.

Re: i am sick to my stomach re:sandals honeymoon

I've been to 4 Sandals resorts. A total of 5 times. I loved everything. I didn't even look at the reviews.

I would go back in a heartbeat. My favorite was Royal Plantation in Ocho Rios.

Re: i am sick to my stomach re:sandals honeymoon

I just wanted to pipe in quickly! I JUST got back from a Sandals resort (yesterday) we went to Dunns River in Jamaica. Although the resort is in need of some repair (the main pool really needs to be refurbished) we had a GREAT experience., The food was good, the room we had was beautful! We had hot water, not bugs, great service and working AC.
Co workers recently went to the one in the Bahamas and had great reviews there too!

IMO you cant believe everything you hear!
