swags - thats so so interesting. DH's family's one cat was diagnosed with cancer about 3 years ago (maybe more). The vet put her on this medication to make her more comfortable and said she probably only had a couple of months maybe - well, she is still alive and they seem to think maybe she never had cancer because I think she doesn't have it anymore. So, I know there's always hope, and really, maybe she will be fine for a long time, but I just hate knowing it's out there.
PS - I'm glad Xena is doing fine!!

Chloegirl is right, my cat is also Feline Leukemia Positive, and he's 8 years old!

He was born with the leukemia (his mother had it), FI was the treating vet for this kitten and the owners wanted to put him down because of the diagnosis. FI took the kitten home (his name is Knuckie) and 8 years later, he's still doing fine!

It's true that 80% of cats with this diagnosis don't live past the first year, but 20% DO, and our cat is proof positive!

At my family's garden center, there are like 9 feral cats which my FI has tested and spayed....ALL the females have the leukemia, and they are all ALIVE, 5 years later.

These cats are contained at that particular place of business, so they cannot transmit the disease.

I have a cat and we just recently took him to the vet for shots. He says he's healthy. Aww, I am so sorry for your kitty. I will say a prayer, and hey you never know....he could outlive many other cats!!!

And thanks Kathy116 for the info. That definately helps to know that you've got one who's managed to do that well. We're just especially freaking out today because for the last couple of weeks, she's seeming to eat less and less. We thought it was cause she seemed to have gotten sick from stuffing herself when we went away for one night on Halloween. This morning though, she didn't even eat almost any of her wet food which she usually gobbles down. We called the vet and he told us to bring her in so they could see if she had a fever and maybe it was an infection. She had no fever so, we of course fear the worse. But, after getting back, she did eat more and has almost finished all her breakfast. We've got some food the vet gave us for tonight and we're hoping if she eats that, maybe she was just feeling a little unwell from the shots yesterday.
