Re: I think I have a Cold Sore...Can anyone help?

Thank you so much! and it won't make things worse right?

So sorry to keep asking you dumb questions. It's just that I have never had this before and it's been driving me crazy and has even made me feel down because of it's ugly appearance.

are you supposed to get fevers or colds from this thing. that's what's bizzare about this whole thing. I never got a fever or cold, but i guess like you've all said, it's probably from too much exposure to the sun.

Fever blisters and cold sores are just called that.... they are actually caused by Herpes Simplex I. Herpes Simplex II is genital herpes. That's why the no kissing. That's one of the ways it's transmitted.

My FH gets cold sores every now and again. Usually when he is very run down. No biggie.

It wont make it worse.. I swear!!! cross my heart! You can get a cold sore/fever blister on your face. it doesnt always have to be on the lip itself.. sometimes I get mine on my chin right below my lip..

Aquaphor will help.. it's amazing stuff!

Re: I think I have a Cold Sore...Can anyone help?

I believe it is called Herpes simplex - My dermatologist said I get mine from too much sun (have to use a ton of sunscreen) my mother had allergy to crest and got it from that. Sun is a big one and since you were just on a cruise it makes sense. Some people get them from stress, allergies, sun, as well as from colds (blowing your nose etc).

My dermatologist gave me Valtrex - it dries it up much faster and cleaner than the cream abreva.

Ever since I got back from my vacation last Sunday I got this red spot above my lip and under my nose. At first it looked like a pimple but then it get more red and it felt irrating. I never got a fever or anything from it...I put cream on it and now it's got that scab looking going. I am going crazy cuz I don't know if it was a cut or a cold sore. I never felt any pain. I have stopped putting on cream because it no longer burns or irrates me. It just looks so ugly!

Help...has anyone ever had something like this and if so what helped for you and how long did it last?

Sorry to hear you have a cold sore but once you get them they never go away they live dormant in your bodyand come out when aggravated like in the sun, (buy lip balm 45 spf and put it on your lips and above), stress will aggravate it. I started getting mine at the age of 18 from sun poisoning. and still get them from time to time... Abreve, Valtrex are all great items. But here is a home remedy... (GO OUT AND GET YOURSELF THE VITAMIN LYSINE) AT THE FIRST SIGN OF THAT LITTLE TINGLE TAKE 3000 MILLIGRAMS EVERY DAY FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS THEN GO DOWN TO 1000 MILLIGRAMS UNTIL ITS GONE. Along with that use the abreva or valtrex you will see a major healing process almost over night...The cold sores wont get as big as they would without the vitamin. Right now your just starting to get them thats how i started and i have to say I have had them so bad 3 & 4 on top of one another...... can we say HUGE... now its rare i get one... FM me for more info....try the vitamin it cant hurt only help... Oh MILK really helps too.. strange huh...
good luck I sympithize with you......

Re: I think I have a Cold Sore...Can anyone help?

Helpful hint: if you feel a cold sore coming on, hold a warm tea bag (liptons, tetley - nothin too fancy) to it for about 10 minutes a few times a day. Do not overdo it - you may stain your face.

The tannic acid in tea seems to prevent the sore from fully forming.

it's worked for me, and my fiance...and his sister...etc.

-- and it's cheap.

Re: I think I have a Cold Sore...Can anyone help?

I get cold sores every time Im really really stressed or in the sun a whole lot. It starts with an itchy feeling on my lip, or the edge of my lip. If you touch it or lick your lips it could spread, so, yeah, no kissy kissy's until it goes away.
I agree that ABREVA is the way to go! Its an over the counter little tube of white cream that makes it go away real fast. Ive tried lots of other cold sore stuff and this works the best. I Put it on as soon as I start to feel the itchies coming, and it usually doesnt come to a full blown cold sore

It's kinda like a vasaline.. but not as thick. It looks clear like gloss.

.. and valtrex is by Rx only.
