If you are inviting your boss, then you should invite their significant other as well.
However, I think many people flub this one up because they pick and choose who they invite from their office. I feel like as far as office invites are concerned (in general), you should invite all or none--NOT 'I like this person, so I'll invite them...but I don't like this person, so tough.' It's easy to say that, but in the end it makes life a little more difficult because it has a tendency to effect the workplace when it's done like that.
I don't agree- I think people shouldn' t be uptight about personal decisions like that. One of my coworkers wanted to invite more people from work but couldn't until the month before due to relatives from overseas late in responding... they invited one table with the rest of the invites and gave one table a personal invite noting the situation and the envelope in the mail- we completely understood almost all of us went to the wedding and stayed later and partied more than the other table! I think it should be more relaxed like that- a wedding is primarily a family affair *edited to add* plus we are stressed out enough because of family-/ wedding issues nevermind workfriend /wedding related issues!

I am having this same dilema.. most of my co-workers are married. But i have like 20.. so i cant afford to invite them all with a guest. So i was thinking of not inviting any. Or secretly inviting my favorites lol.
i would do that too!!
actually, I did do that! LOL
im losing it - three weeks to go and this is not the time to lose it!!!!

The ones that I am inviting from work are married and I'm inviting them with their spouses. If they want to bring them, it's their choice. They will all be sitting at the same table anyway.

I am inviting like 9 co workers and their significant others- wasn't crazy about it but I felt it was only right. they could always respond as single if they want but I would rather they decide that then me deciding for them

Is it OK not to invite co-workers? I don't roll like that... I keep work at work. It my place of work it will not be career suicide not to invite my boss... we are so micromanaged that my job only depends on how well I perform.

Re: If you're inviting co-workers/bosses...
I'm still deciding whether or not to invite them at all. If I do it will only be a few, so I will definitely invite them with their wives (all the bosses are men).

I invited everyone with guest/husbands/finacees.Me and FH feel like you shouldn't invite one without the other. Also if you invite 1 person from work you should invite everyone else.

Re: If you're inviting co-workers/bosses...
I've done the math and I think I will only be able to invite the bosses. If I am to invite the co-workers I want (with their guest) it's going to be an extra 30-35 people to pay for. I simply can't afford it. Just the bosses I guess.Maybe as the date is closer I can squeeze a few select ones in, but we'll see.

Re: If you're inviting co-workers/bosses...
I am limited in the number of guests I'm having so my work list of invites was kept very small. My immediate manager, the head of the dept and one other and their spouses. No spouses would have given me the extra seats I would need to invite the others that I am friendly with but I think it's right to not invite their spouses. But, if you invite any with a date, I dont think it's right to limit the 'date' to only spouses. It would be unfair to those unmarried.

Re: If you're inviting co-workers/bosses...
If they are married I think you have to invite their spouses..... that goes for anyone you invite thats married.... If they are not married just dating then I wouldn't invite them with a guest.HTH!

I agree with keeping work at work.
In some cases, you CAN invite co-workers--you're all close and it's a small department. But, otherwise, I feel that just because one is getting married that does not mean that's an automatic invite for co-workers...something like that should never be assumed.
I have issues with people cherry picking who they are going to invite from work--I take the all or none approach because I find it rude to do that to a department. People don't always realize how things like that can affect the overall work environment.
