Re: If you sent invitations to the President and/or Pope...

1. Turn it into a political circus
2. Try to talk them out of it
3. Completely ignore the gay couple's invite because they don't fit into the 'traditional family' mold.

What if a gay couple sent them an invitation to a committment ceremony?
Just curious.

I'd be interested to know whether they would send a card to them as well...

My guess? (Without stating my political opinion of course ) a big fat NO.

The White house website lists the only events that will be acknowledged with their cards. The people must be US Citizens, it can be a birthday- but must be over the age of 80, a wedding anniversary- at least 50 years, and a marriage or birth of a child

but, their guildeline on the time frame is totally off. It says that you must sent your request in 6 weeks before the event, they will turn it around within 10 days.

I sent my invite 8 weeks in advance and my card is postmarked Sept 22, 2004

I didn't send anything to the Pope because my officiant was my mother's cousin who is a Catholic Bishop. He does all of the family weddings and as a gift, presents the bride and groom with the beautiful certificate from the Vatican at the end of the wedding ceremony. I still need to have it framed thout...It's pretty big, like 16 by 20 and has our names done in Calligraphy (the entire text is actually in calligraphy). Unfortunately, my maiden last name was spelled wrong . But, most people don't even notice.

Isn't that gorgeous? A priest friend got that for my sister

Re: If you sent invitations to the President and/or Pope...

I would have LOVED one from the Pope
What would happen if I sent one to the Pope's address anyway?

I'm sure you'll still get one. Any, you might even be the first to get it from the NEW Pope.

The top of the certificate has a big pic of the Pope attached to it.

I was going to have mine framed this weekend, but there's no way I'm bringing that outside in bad weather.
